I am getting ready to upgrade to 31 spline Mosers and notice that Jegs sells a Ford 31 spline T-Lock. Would this hold up? What if I add a few clutch disks?

With the power you are making I would do some more research. I have the 31 spline truck unit in my 01 cobra. I paid 220 brand new a few months ago. You might want to check into the eaton posi or some other brands. The Ford 31 spline unit is pretty heavy duty compared to the factory 28 spline unit. The S spring and spyder gaers are much bigger.

What is bad about Moser axles? Is Strange axles better?

I've seen nothing but good quality from moser. Yes the ford T lock will work, I know of cars that went 9's without problems on it so i guess it works fairly well. Look at local auto wreckers, I know up here there avaliable for about 100Cdn, about 65 Us dollars.

David, I ran low 10's (low 1.50 60foots) regularly with my old car, first with a 33 spline spool and Moser axles, then with a 31 spline traction loc, and Ford Motorsport (which I think are also Moser) axles. With the traction loc, I simply re-packed it with an extra clutch on either side. If you're going automatic, and no transbrake, it will be fine for your setup.

I never had a Moser related issue, but have "read" about people having issues with axles being too short or whatever. Don't know of anyone who's ever broken one....Strange is high quality stuff.

Moser axle studs

I have put many mid 1.30's sixty foot passes on my 31 spline moser race axles and also drive my car on the street. No problems. I did, however, break an Auburn Pro after just four passes.............James

Would the Stange axles be fine too? The reason I ask is if I order the T-Lock from Jeg's, they sell Stange axles too. It would be easier to just order both from them.

Would I need to add a couple of disks to it or would it be good as is with the Auto?

David, I added some mainly because it needed re-packing anyway. If you're getting a new unit, it'll be fine as is...I've always been a fan of the Ford traction locs because they're easy (and cheap) to rebuild....Heck, I was going 10.50's with a stock rebuilt 8.8, and 28 spline axles...:eek:

Well with my current changes I feel safer upgrading to 31 spline. I think I will go with the axles from Strange and the Ford T-lock. Thanks for the info.

OH NO!!! Don't think I was trying to talk you into leaving the 28 spline stuff in....I was crazy to leave it like that as long as I did. I was just making a point about the strength and reliability...;)

sweet, that means i'll be able to save some cash insteed of buying an eaton.

my goal is to run 12.5's on DR's so i think that will definaly adequate from the information here.

street tires
stock rims. 338hp car
mosier 31 splines with c-clip elims
mosier told me to go get bent pretty much.


same EXACT thing happened to my friend fred (corral poster).
street tires, driving down the street on draglites with street tires... puches the gas, all the lugs sheered off.
same exact part numbers on the axles.
moier 31 splines.
i forgot to grab a pic of the axle, but its identical.
tore his car up pretty good though, runied the rim/tire.
could have killed him.

Ouch!
I just received my Strange 31 spline axles. I also got a set of ARP wheel studs and the Ford 31 spline T-Lock. I am waiting for the bearing/seal kit to arrive also. Lastly I have a SVO main diff cover. Now I am hoping that this will last me a long time.
