why is my car slow? 13s H/C/I 317?

i bought a car a couple weeks ago, and i feel its pretty slow for what parts are in it, any suggestions? fastest pass i have made in the car on motor is 13.58 @ 101 w/ 2.05 60', fastest mph is only 103, timing is locked at 34*, shift at 6300-6500ish, chip is at 7k

10.5:1 317 with Probe pistons, 3.100 stroker crank, Eagle 5.400 x 2.0 H beam rods, Crower cam 266 @ .050 duration 570 lift, TFS twisted wedge 170cc 2.02/1.60 aluminum heads w/ FMS 1.6 roller rockers,

BBK longtubes w/ 2 chamber flowmasters

Eldebrock Torquer 2 intake

Holley 750 dp

tranny is currently a fresh c4, tci 3k convertor, foot brakes 2800ish, flashes 3200ish

has a 3.55 rear gear and 28x10s, gonna switch to a smaller tire, something like a 275/50, and possibly a 4.10 gear, or keep the 28x10 and go 4.56s, planning on switching to a victor jr intake as well

i have considered changing the cam to a xe282hr or TFS 2 as well

on a side note, i noticed when i pulled the cap/rotor to check the weights/springs(none) in the dist, the cap has some very small corrosion and the center pin for the coil seems to be worn down, how tall are the pins on a MSD cap? will that effect the performance that bad?...it runs and drives fine

3.55's with 28x10's are killing it.
Try the 4.10's and 26's or 4.56's with the 28's.

Alot of this was answered in your other thread "overcammed". Your not going to see improvement until you start changing the things suggested.

so 4.56s with the 28s?....and a victor jr?...think its gonna make that much of a difference?...i figured the car would at least run mid-low 12s on this setup, its a factory 4cyl 89 coupe, so its pretty light

3.55's and a 28" tire.... Good lord. Your drive ratio is killing you. Swap gears to a 4.10-4.20, or switch to a 26" tire. I bet you pick up quite a bit. Don't touch the cam, until you get your gearing fixed.

ok before you start messing with the rest what is your air fuel ratio from 3000-6500?
Are you bogging? What do the plugs look like ? If you are seeing corrosion in the distributor then you need to start there.

The clue is the 101-103 trap speed. You only have a 2.0 60 ft so a 13.50 is not bad. For those heads you should easily make over 300 to the wheels.
I would also look at the intake before gearing/tires ect. That is not optimized either as reflected with the 2.0 60ft.

You need to first work on the HP/MPH/Tuning for max power first then after the power band is correct then you tune the chassis for the power you are making for the best ET.

RECOMENDATIONS:
1. Find a Dyno
2. Order the Holley Carb tuning kit from Summit (it has various valves, jets and springs you can change)
3. New electronic distributor (MSD 6AL is a bonus to use)
4. Dyno Time, Dyno time and Dyno time with a wide band...

The money spent on tuning the AF on the Dyno is worth 10x spent else where on GUESSING on parts.

IF YOU DON'T KNOW YOUR AF RATIO THEN YOU ARE WASTING YOUR TIME WITH EVERYTHING ELSE.....

do you realize that a [email protected]" in a 302ci would want to be shifted at like 7500rpm?...maybe 8K? U would need around a 5800 stall with that much cam, possibly along the lines of 6200....
X2, not sure if your a HR or a SR but way too tight of a converter, wrong gears.

Your probably going to need at least 4.30's with 26" tires and way more converter. Somewhere around 5000 rpm at the minimum. 3000 isnt going to do anything for that combo, always will be a dog off the line.

i found a complete fresh 8.8 with 4.10s for $200 so i may pick that up

it has a MSD pro billet and 6AL, the plugs looks pretty good, a nice light amber color, it doesnt bog at all, just a dog, if i bring the car to 4k driving down the road and then mash it, it moves great, but from a stop or anything less than 4k its a dog

im gonna put the 4.10s and a victor jr on it to start, probably put some control arms in the back to get rid of the bone stock non boxed control arms in the back

well i went to the track last night, only change was pulling the exhaust off, only pulled it to install a d/s loop, and left it off

got a 12.97 @ 108.93 on motor with a 2.01 60' so its still a dog outta the hole but runs better, on a 125 shot it went 11.56 @ 119.11 with a 1.78 60' so i need to get this thing to leave harder and i think it would go into the 10s

think i could get a little more aggressive with the tune?...125 shot, 32* timing on 110 race gas

the car pulled hard till i shifted, only reason for shifting it is cause it was coming up on the rev limiter, chip is only 7k, only crosses the traps at 5100 or so, so a gear and intake change is in order

id get it running good on motor first then worry about spray.that thing should go 12.0 at 112 with ease. then spray it to the 10's. but get it running good and you'll be happier. id start with the convertor and gears. then go to cams swaps exc.

it has 3" straight pipes to the rearend with the mufflers dumped at the axle,

im looking at maybe a 4500 convertor and some 4.10s, to make it more friendly on the nitrous, wouldnt the victor jr intakes power band do alot better than the power band on the torquer?

torquer 2500-6500

victor jr 3500-8000
