I'm sure you all have your own way. So let's here it. By the way what do your bearings look like at the end of the year?

Roll through the water box and stop with the rear tires just past the water. Set line lock, trans in first gear, rev engine to about 6,500 rpm, shift to high and let off the line lock and drive out about 20 feet. Stop, put trans in first, turn on I/C pump, turn on 2nd fuel pump and stage car. I have no idea what by bearings look like. I have not had the motor apart even after 4 years of racing it.

I read an article years ago in national dragster about bearing failure. I think Bill Mitchell wrote it. He talked about engines he built and were sent in at the end of the year to be freshened. First he thought he was getting bad bearings. What he found out was the difference in burnout procedure.



I prefer to drive around the burnout box. I start in first and run her up to 6000 rpm shift to 2nd and when I notice the first sign of engine bog let off. Short and sweet.

I have to let off of the gas to get any engine bog...Lol

I pull through try to stop where the tires are just inside the wet pavement. Put in 2nd. Dump clutch hold brake until tires start to smoke. Let off brake and spin out. When it feels like the tires are dry I clutch it and hit the brakes. Stage.

Here is what I do in mt stick car on Drag Radials
I pull the water box slowly, I don't want to spin water up into the wheel wells. Put the car in 2nd rev it up dump the clutch get on the brake just enough to hold it (line lock going soon). Once i see smoke, I come of the brake and let the car spin the tires out towards the starting line. Stage and go.

Same procedure on my 4-speed AMX NHRA Super Stock car but in 3rd gear. You get more wheel speed quickly in 3rd than in 1st or 2nd.

same but start in 2nd, shift 3rd , shift 4th....I never do 3rd gear burnouts...smaller gear and you are shocking it ...
