I was going to get new rear coil spring and cut one coil from them but, when I went to rockauto there was 2 springs listed one is a variable rate spring the other is a constant rate spring. Which one should I get? The car is a 1990 Convertible.

Depends on your purpose. If you want a spring for daily driving get the progressive rate. They will be soft driving around normal and will get stiffer the harder you lean on them.

Since you posted this in the drag racing section i assume you're purpose is launching at the track and not DD. In that case the constant rate spring is better. It will transfer the weight quicker to the rear tires and is better for performance based applications.

I'm going to make a couple assumptions:

1: You're looking at a stock type spring, in the stock location.

2: You don't know vehicle weight bias

3: What the spring weight options are

4: This would be more for a street car than race car..

I'll stop there, and say it won't matter a whole lot which one you get.

Thanks for the responses. Yes it will be my daily driver, I have a up notch that’s gonna be set up for drag. Yes I don’t know what most of those are. Constant rate is the less expensive so I guess I’ll go with them
