Finally blew up my stock clutch at the track last week. Must say, I sure got my money's worth. Over 200 launches at 6000 and 60' times as low as 1.49, but mostly 1.5xx. As it was starting to go I could watch the sixty slowly climb to high 1.5's. According to FRPP tech, the clutch on my Mach 1 crate motor was similar to the old King Cobra. Upon removal, it was a Valeo, half the organic was ripped off and shredded on pp side. Only making about 375 at the flywheel, T56 with 2.66 first (on it's way out to D&D for a 26 spline input and 5th and 6th removed). When the clutch was good, consistent 11.80-11.84 ET's. The stock flywheel was a nodular iron stamped Cobra, 8 bolt in the Mach, and it weighed 23 lbs.

I have 90% decided to go with the Exedy stage 1 Mach 400, organic disc and the pp has a clamp to 2700ish. I was going to pair that with their chrome molly SFI lightened flywheel, which looks like a really nice piece, but it only weighs 16.1 lbs, vs the 23 I had. That 7 lbs lighter is making me a little nervous about the whole inertia stored energy concept, and hurting my 60' and subsequent ET. All the Ford Racing SFI steel flywheels are up around 29-30 lbs, and that causes me concern about being too heavy.

Thoughts?

Thanks, good read. Makes me feel more comfortable about going with the Exedy 16.1 lb chrome molly wheel.

Meh. Decided dropping 7-8 lbs off the stocker which was 23-24 was too much. Ordered the FRPP 20 lb 8 bolt billit steel, so 3-4 lbs lighter. Teamed it with the Exedy Mach 400, according to Exedy tech rep fashioned directly after the old King Cobra clutch. 2700 clamp, organic, 26 spline, and SFI 1.1. Should have all the parts to install in week or so, then need to attempt a mild break in before hard launches at track. Will post follow up on performance vs stocker. Want to try and help any stick racer out there with clutch and flywheel decisions. Tricky. Very tricky. Black art for the Coyote stock guys who have to run a diaphram style clutch. So my decisions are 2+2 = 4 vs E=MC squared compared to them. Right Ed?
