I am thinking of ordering some real wheels for next year, but I'm wondering about the brake cooling on them. I currently have really open mesh 18" wheels, and just how much different would cooling be with the 10 hole centers and the solid center. I hate the kidney bean centers so thats completely out. I like the solid center, but don't know if the brakes will get to hot or not.
I am a left foot braker and have the 03/04 cobra brakes all around, and I already know I will have to clearance the calipers. I went through a set of hawk dtc60 brake pads in 5 months and have ordered porterfield R4E. The brake dust rusting on my wheels was a PITA

Which kind of wheels are you going to? Your 18's are nice what you going to do with those and the big hoosiers you have?

I have 2 sets of those wheels. Maybe the race set will go toward rains or something. I'm looking at going to slicks on 16x11-12 wheels. I probably wouldn't If I could get the 18's widened another inch or so, but nobody wants to touch them and if they do, they will only widen them to the back. I'm already running way too much spacer for my liking.

For Solo or track use?

Friends of mine use Real Racing wheels on their E Production RX7's and they have no brake cooling issues - at least none that can be attributed to the wheels.

Yeah for Solo use I can't see brake cooling being a huge issue. I ran solid wide 5 adapters on a CP mustang 90's and didn't experience any brake cooling issues

Yep for solo2 brake cooling is a non-issue. If brakes are overheating on the autocross lot they are being used un-necessarily.

I'd agree for the typical 4 run event. But if you do say an EVO school, where multiple back-to-back runs are typical, not only will there be brake heating problems but I've seen smoke from a couple of bimmer Z-cars.

They are heavier in the back then most stangs so they can dial the rear braking more on theirs then we can.
Maybe, but the point is brake heating problems can happen at A/X events where there are a lot of back-to-back runs over a long, techical course such as happended at the EVO school. On those two days, I was running Hawk HPS pads on my 86 with the typical Cobra brake conversion. I can assure you, they got hot. But the bimmers actually smoked. I'll also allow that was a very hot, end-of-July weekend which didn't help.
