Ok I have an 87 GT and I've really been thinking about starting to autox and/or roadrace for fun, I've been thinking about buying a maier front/back 3" fender flare kit because I love the way it looks on a fox, so I was wondering am I going to run into any problems with this? And what would be a good tire size/wheel combo to fill these fenders out... I don't have a TON of money so I really don't want to have to go buy 18/10 ccw rims or something to fill out these fenders..

Some help would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks corral!!

I don't know a lot about the kit, but I will offer a suggestion. Judging by the reaction of most people I think you should save your money for something else. Hit the track first and then decide what you want from there. I'd be willing to bet that once you get out there, you are going to want to spend that money elsewhere, like the MM catalog for example.

Well I have enough money right now for this kit, and some other goodies, and I really love the way it looks.. Mike stallingrad (sp?) Has the 3" maier flares and I love the way his car looks, the only thing I worried about is his tire/wheel combo, he is running 315s front and back (I think) and I can't do that, I think I could do 275s front and back but I'm unsure if they will fill the 3" fenders or not, I don't want to get this kit on and get tires/rims for it and the rims be really sunk into the wheel wells and look horrible.. When and if I do this and am done with it I will start with the mm catalog purchases ;) just need some help or suggestions with what I want to do right now

Thanks!!

On a side note, you should know by now that if you have a question, ASK IT. Titling a thread "question" is mustang-world lame.

Ok well since I'm new to this I don't really know anything about it...if 275s will look small under a 3" flare I know 315s will look fine, but will I be able to fit 315s all around with just 3" fender flares and nothing else suspension wise done to my car?.. Also what size rim would I need to support a 315 sized rim?

Thanks guys!

go to your first event in a structurally mechanicly sound car and work on the "driver mod" first.... then buy parts as your skill starts to exceed your car's abilities... otherwise you are just wasting money...

if you are itching to spend some money on some parts to make your car turn fast, start out with some good sway bars or brakes first.... then after you learn not to lock up the brakes, pick up some slicks.

Well I've been talking to matt from maier for awhile now and he suggested that I look at ccw wheels, I like their classic/4s, they are $2200 for a set, so I've been thinking about getting 18"x10" ccws, with a 315 tire on all four corners with a 3" flare kit from maier... All of this of course is over time not right away, I'm going to start some beginners events and start to get the hang of the whole thing...

Its up to you because its your car and money, but there is a lot more out there that you can buy to improve the performance of your car for that kind of cash outlay. But if you have your heart set on flares and 315's at all corners, go for it. Just don't get mad if you start chewing up tires because the car wants to roll like a boat.

You should turn it into a full blown CP car then learn to drive it. :king:

I'm sure your grip will be better but I'd have to wonder if a 20+ year old set of stock suspension bushings are going to like that.

I'd seriously reconsider doing all the body work and spending $ on wheels when you could have the better part of the MM catalogue for that price and worry about the flares and rubber once you have the suspension that could make better use of it.

Quick question for everyone, I'm considering what you are all saying and I'm thinking about putting this all on hold and buying suspension parts... But will a 17x10" rim with a 315 tire fit on a stock suspension fox with 3" flares?...

You'll probably rub the wheel and/or tire on the front control arms. I guess if they were backspaced out far enough, maybe you'd just clear.

Please tell me that you just didn't list your 5 lug/4 wheel disc brake setup and subframe connectors in your sig. Again a couple things you'll need before worrying about BA wheels/tires.
