T5's can be built to handle up to around 600hp and shift above 7000 rpm. If you go that route, I would talk to a T5 specialist about you power level, driving habits and usage.

Thanks for all the advice, I appreciate it. I'm assuming a remanufactured T45 would have the "updated" parts that were problematic in the original ones?... but I can't be sure. I'd consider a T5, but I always thought that they can't handle the HP/torque of the Cobra. Are remanufactured T5's beefier than the originals?
One would think, but the parts pipeline only has the updated carbon-fiber synchro rings. Things like forks and shift plates are not considered "normal" rebuild parts and they are all discontinued anyway. For example, take it to the corner transmission shop, or that national big-name chain for a rebuild you will get bearings, seals and rings, pay a ton of money and still not have the upgraded parts needed to make a T-45 actually reliable.

Regarding the strength of the T-5 transmissions. They are actually getting weaker these days... Tremec stopped making the gears other than for the T5-Z (so far) and the replacement gears are all made in Asia. Some are better than others, but none of the steel there is as strong as Tremec used even though they technically use the same grade of steel. Not too much loss though because with the power of today's engine builds even the factory T-5 gears are no match and shred readily. If the car is close to stock and not too abused anymore, the imported gears will do fine.

Custom gear sets for theT-5 like the "Astro A-5" or "G-Force Street" are made of stronger steel and make for pretty strong T-5 transmissions, but still, a T-5 can only be built so strong.

SPeace-ATL=Stan from Pro Force that I mentioned before. Good talk on the upgrades to the 99-01 models... makes sense that my 00 model with 40k miles on it still is notchy and I kinda hate it. Still... until Corona lets up and I can get my container shipper guy in Sevilla to put a transmission in his containers that come over every 3 months I'm stuck. Also it still shifts fine at 7200... would much rather have a Pro Force 3650 tho. Or a magnum... NA 4V with 4.30s or 4.56s and a wide ratio Magnum is a monster street machine.
