I picked up a pair of very used pair of MM front control arms for very cheap. A kid thought they were AJE arms and had them listed very cheap. From the pictures, I saw they needed bushings, but I didn't know the balljoints were trashed.

Do these arms use a OEM replacement SN95 balljoint? Once the spot welds are ground out under the balljoint in the sleeve, do they press out as a normal balljoint?

Would this also be a good time to consider something like an X2 balljoint?

I spent a little bit of time comparing pictures of control arms before I bought them, and you guys have very distinctive arms. The more I looked at the ones I have, the more I see they have seen a hard life.

Those are not MM FCAs. They are counterfeit models, probably sold by GMS.

To remove the ball joints, you will need to cut the tack welds on the bottom. Then put the FCA in a hydraulic press. Push down on the top of the ball joint stud. This will push the cap off of the bottom of the ball joint. You can then pull the cap off along with the stud and guts which will fall out of the bottom. Then press down on the ball joint body from the top to push the ball joint housing out the bottom.

That's probably the worse news I could have gotten all weekend. While it could very well be a quality product, I really dislike GMS and their practices.

I guess I'll contact them and see what ball joints and bushings they use, and see if it will be cost effective to replace the components, or toss out the arms and start fresh.

I was looking forward to putting some delrin bushings in these things.

Final question I think:

Is there a way I can ensure that these are indeed SN95 control arms, and not fox length control arms?

Since they have two swaybar endlink holes, they are SN95 FCAs. The inner hole is for use on a Fx chassi. The outer hole is for use on an SN95 chassis.

I'm 95% certain that the MM FCA bushings will fit in these.

I just wanted to update this a little bit.

I used a pencil grinder, and ground down the welds holding the ball joint in. A couple firm wacks with a hammer and the ball joint slid right out. They certainly aren't as tight of a friction fit as a factory control arm. There is no question that I will have to tack the new ball joints back in. I'm not overly enthralled about that, but I don't see why it would be an issue. Just not my favorite thing.

You could cut a short piece of tubing which fits inside the ball joint cup. Install the new ball joint, then slide this piece of tubing in afterwards. Then the bottom of the tube can be spot welded to the bottom of the ball joint cup. This makes it much easier to service and keeps the ball joint from being damaged by the welding heat and distortion.

Not to hijack your thread, but I happen to be installing new ball joints on my mmfca-sn95 control arms. I had already purchased a set of ball joints that had zerts for greasing. Problem is that the bottom OD of the ball joint is too large for the tube on the control arm (not the press fit, the open tube under the press fit portion). I spoke with MM and found that you must have a ball joint style similar to Ford F4ZZ-3050-B. So, study the images of that part before you order new ones. I bought these from MM as they were competitive on price. Bummed because these are sealed.

So, my only real problem now is the installation. My press kit has press tubes that are too small (hitting the grease cup) or just slightly too large.

Can anyone recommend a ball joint press kit that has a press tube that has an OD that is just small enough to fit the tube on the control arm and hit the outer press area of the ball joint correctly?
