Since you lose 20% hp in auto why do people switch do the manual to auto swap? I'm thinking of changing out my t45 for a 4r70w but now not to sure. Your thoughts plz
Auto keeps boost up undr load to allow for more constant pressyre.. Everytime u granny shift a manuel u have to rebuild boost.. In a auto this does not occur
Depends on what your goals are for the car and your preference. It takes skill to row gears consitently and quickly making the automtic a better choice for your average guy at the track.
Ok so I was considering a t3650 swap on my auto 96 gt until I got to this tread.
Now I'm having second thoughts.
But not 100% convinced.
How does the advantage of an auto translate on the street from a role?
I don't condone street racing. But I did witness a turnpike confrontation between a challenger srt8 and what I think was a zr1 (I have a non pi 96 so I could only get but so close before they were out...don't laugh).
Sounds like built autos are good from a stop, but do they maintain the same advantage starting from say 40mph?
I'll need to know because I'm in the midst of a built 2v with the intent to go turbo.
I have always liked to shift gears myself but after putting 12-1400 miles on our twin turbo 2011, I would have to say auto all the way. Your going to be much more consistent like mentioned previously, quicker at the track and honestly I enjoy driving it around the city more as well now.
If you are just driving the car on the weekends and really not seeing the track, I would still go with a manual.
Properly built auto for any fast car. There is no comparison........PERIOD....unless you just like the clutch/pedal action. But you will lose in an actual race to the same car with an auto every time.
If your going for max et the auto becomes a better option as hp increases regardless of your power adder (although turbos benefit more then n20 or blowers since you can build boost off the line and maintain max boost during shifts). on that note, i personally care more about having fun then i do consistency. give me a ton of horsepower and let me row those gears. i will have fun breaking parts while your auto car is sitting in the garage because your bored of it. and to the guy running 11.0@136 in a stick car....invest in some tires or learn how to drive.
