Never understand for the life of me why someone would want to do this. Not like it is going to outrun what Ford offers and it is going to be expensive. But to each their own.

some people are forever in love with chevy and dont know how to make ford power. whatever. it is what it is. I think Im confidant a 6.0 truck motor with cam headers and a carb should be faster than a stock 5.0. by quite a bit actually. not my money, its not up to me

You can do anything cheap, if you can fabricate on your own, or at least make quality welds. Plenty of cheap LS mounts for sale out there that come with tabs you could add to the factory k member. But your header clearance would be tough, supposedly you could make truck, or 2010+ camaro headers work.

Just think of a sliding scale, with money, and personal fabrication skill on opposing sides.

That parts list is crazy, but still makes a valid point. Just take the most reasonable, realistic list you can find, and double it. Im starting an ls swap soon on a '87 Tbird, and I hope I can do it for $7k. Its going to be close. I plan on documenting every dime I spend, and being completely honest about it.

Ford vs Chevy, blah blah blah. Im doing this because "I" find it interesting, and fun.

A dead stock truck 6.0 with a carb on it will run 11's in a 3100lb car with a turbo 400.

All depends on what you are doing but I used my existing c4 $260 for a bell housing. Reused my fuel system. Spent $1500 on the efi to control it all.

You can do it cheap just depends on what you are looking to get out of it.
One of the best things I have done with my car. I was bored with the old motor and had wanted to do one of these for years.

My buddy did a cam only LQ4 in his coupe and went 7.30 with a glide. Went 6.22 the next pass on 150 through a single fogger.

I have about 4k total in my whole build, car included. I'm building a cam only 6.0 for my 93 coupe. I'm using AJE kmember though. I've seen people using the 4.6 mounts for the ls1, which is cheap enough. You just have to extend a tab, and thats about it.

As for headers, buy a set of 351 swap headers for a fox and buy an ls1 flange. Then have the header tubes welded to the ls1 flange.

Use stock PCM and wiring harness to control the EFI. Which costs about $150 for everything.

Short answer is, yes.

Use BRP kit($500) and it will use factory k member, etc. It seems expensive for what it is, and is built around the cts v pan. You may spend much more doing this than buying an aje/team z k member, and associated parts.

BRP's headers look like they are a good design, but again, a very specific design application(brp mounts, ctsv pan). They make no guarantees if the rest isnt brp.

My buddy did the 351 Headers. Just cut the existing flanges off and welded up ls1 flanges. Worked like a charm. Car is really budget. Already had the glide and bought the harness and ECM from a wrecked z28. Paid 300 bucks for the compleat lq4 just need cam bearings.

It can be done relatively cheap if you don't mind waiting on deals on ls1tech and are willing to take slight risks on Craigslist.

Most people are on a forum these days - just have a picture taken with the username, date, and parts in the pic. Check forum feedback, maybe use eBay to message the sellers and confirm it's them if they say "I sell on eBay, too". An honest seller won't have any problems doing this if they want the sell.

I'll write up a list in a few and post it.

I came up with just shy of 6 grand, including the car.

AJE k member (new, Jegs) - 279
AJE motor mounts (new, AJE) - 55
AJE transmission crossmember (used, ls1tech) - 75
Exhaust, headers to tailpipes (used, picked up locally, ls1tech) - 350

Those are the ONLY swap specific parts I could think of with the exception of the MSD box, which I didn't include because under the hood of most Mustangs is a 6AL, which new is only $100 less than a 6010...but if you want to split hairs...

Some of that stuff wasnt really needed in the LS list posted above, and some was outright overpriced. I dont know what kind of heads he is buying for 1400, but you can get a set of L92s brand new for about 750 bare from SDPC that will flow 300+ on the intake side right out of the box. 550 will get you a used set, complete.

I still lack a converter and some things like fuel lines, a rebuild kit, and gaskets, but all my $200+ parts are behind me.

I think theres a few reasons people like to do this, the least of which is pissing off someone who is brand loyal. As car enthusiasts, we LIKE to tinker and see new ideas (or old, worn out ideas...) work. Our hobby is based on things that are different, "custom", as much as I hate that word. Stock is no good to us.

I think another big thing is weight. There are NO affordable aluminum Ford blocks available. Its impossible to put a dollar amount on weight savings, but it is important, especially in an already nose-heavy car like a Mustang.

Yea no kidding

That list is full of unnecessary parts. I'm running stock fuel system with a intake 255 and efi hose from factory line to rails.. You don't need a edebrock intake.. #### my car has a truck intake... The swap is cheap.. Aftermarket fuel system and mods don't count.. You will do that on any engine

well mine dont count as I bought it setup. The LS1 was expensive as this swap was done almost 8 years ago before a lot of people even thought about it.
Trivia: When doing the LS swap my buddy Rich was on the phone and sending pics to AJE letting them know how close their k member would work with an LS1 swap. This was before they offered one. Rich was also one of the first to find out that Ford headers would work with just putting on LS1 flanges.

I think the key would be the availability of the LS base motor now as I have seen some in the 500 range.

Turbocharged and everything 4000.. Turbo kit only cost me pipping 500, 50 dollar wastegate 100 dollar bov and 300 dollar turbo 200 dollar coldside kit and front mount because one of my bosses was nice enough to fab it for me for free
