I'm putting together an engine combo that will be MS3 controlled. I'm ditching the factory TFI ignition and going with either a set of D585 LS2truck coils or a set of D514a LS2 coils. (I have both, just a matter of which i can package nicer) Since i'm also using a nice set of black finned Ford Racing valve covers, i'd rather not mount the coils to the valve covers.

I've seen mount brackets for the LS coils for relocation uses or custom installs, but looking for some ideas as to where to mount them in a Fox. I've seen the firewall used, or behind each strut tower, to even hiding them in the cowl opening under the grill.

With more guys going aftermarket EFI these days, just wanting to see what others have done.

Yeah, those are pretty nice. It sure where also to put them. Valve cover seems like a natural choice.

Im running the PIMPXS standalone and will be going to their coil on plug ignition and selling all the MSD stuff myself, cant wait to do this. Im still debating weather I want to do valve cover mounted or off to the side.

I'm planning on buying the Stinger CAS to make this all work. It's a 24-2 cam angle sensor that will take the place of the crank and cam sensor and allow me to do full sequential with 8 logic coils on my MS3x setup

They make a wide variety of Remote mounts for the LS coils. I'm really trying to do a inner fender mount as i can then run all my wiring inside the inner fenders and really clean up the engine.

Most creative idea yet i''ve seen is putting them under the cowl grill where the wipers nomally sit. Was a pretty clean install although i didn't see how the spark plug wires made their way through the firewall. Not sure i want to cut my firewall just yet.

I started with coils mounted on my valve covers.

But when I upgraded heads my roller rockers were too tall for the stock valve covers, and there was no room between the taller valve covers and the Explorer intake for coils. So I mounted them on the shock towers to minimize plug wire length.

Im on stock valve covers so i dont mind covering them with coils, I want super light weight custom aluminum VC's but that can wait. I want the shortest plug wire possible so mounting them remotely is not an option.

I can post a picture later, but I put them above the cam sensor where the stock distributor would be and ran the wires sort of like a distributor setup but with the terminals facing "sideways"

Looks good, sort of like a EDIS setup on an Explorer.

I'd actually like to see that. I thought about using that location since it would be relatively empty after ditching the distributor. Was trying to figure out the layout in my head to arrange the coils in a nice, compact manner in that spot.

I plan to add some type of coil-near-plug setup in the long tern, not anytime soon, and have been following these type of discussions.
One configuration I have been thinking about, though not sure if it's more of a pain than a solution, would be to use a mount similar to this one: https://www.ebay.com/i/233133623872?chn=ps
and mount it on the side of the valve cover, above the headers. Using standoffs to mount it to the vc should allow access to the vc bolts.
... just food for thought.

A gentleman on the Megasquirt FB group manufacturers such a bracket for the SBF 302 valve cover. Problem is i don't know if they will clear the EFI style plenum

interesting.... i too have considered going to a coil per cyl on my ride... HOWEVER the reasons why for me were tuneability and actually letting me slow my car down a little... if it's spark your after it's hard to beat the msd 44........

I'd bet that they don't - with stock short Explorer-style valve covers my coils barely fit under the plenum/TB. I had to modify the PCV nipples to get it to fit. As soon as I switched to the taller valve covers that I needed to fit the roller rockers, there was zero room.

I doubt they would clear as well, which is why I haven't purchased a set.

I really like the idea of coming up with something to mount them like the edis coil packs though.

Nice. Thank for the pic. Helps visualize it a bit better
