SN95 body. 150lb 14" coilovers (no travel limiters) with tubular front end. From ground to fender is 27 1/2" and the rear is 27 3/4". I've always thought by raising the ride height (compressing the coil) it will store more energy and lift the nose more during the launch. However, someone on YB said that by raising the nose you loose momentum when the nose starts to lift. By lowering it I increase the momentum. I guess kinda like a running start. Should I lower the nose an inch? Thanks.

Hey Mark,
You're not "compressing" the spring when you raise it. If it is 8" tall before you raise it it will still be 8" tall after you raise it.
You are doing several things when you do raise it.
1. Moving weight to the rear of the car.
2. Removing available front end travel.
Since you have coilovers try it raised and lowered and see what happens. Every car will respond differently.

You will never help the weight transfer by lowering the front end unless there is something terribly wrong in the first place.

just to add on..... Measured it and my front is at 25.5 and my rear is at 27. Car is a fox body.

If you are having a serious traction problem chances are you either have the wrong/wrong size tire or a rear suspension problem and not a front end ride height problem. What rear tire and rear suspension do you have?

Thanks guys. So should the ground to fender length be the same for both? By removing the available front end travel I thought that it would reduce the weight transfer? -Mark

The ground to fender height will change when raising/lowering the car.

For some reason people think that when adjusting the ride height with coilovers this changes the "spring pressure" or the amount of "energy" the spring contains. This is not true. All that is being done is changing the position of the spring on the strut or shock body. The only thing that affects how much the spring is compressed is the amount of weight that the spring is holding up. Altering the ride height has very little affect on how much the spring is compressed or the amount of stored energy the spring contains.

But changing the ride height on the front of the car changes a lot of factors including the amount of "usable strut travel" or front end rise. Some cars need more than others and this can/does have a pronounced affect on weight transfer.

By removing the available front end travel I thought that it would reduce the weight transfer?
For the most part you are correct. Removing front end travel can make it harder to hook but you mentioned raising the front end so I thought you wanted to try it.

You are also slightly affecting your IC location and AS factors. My car actually liked it better when the front end was lower.

I have found that the front is about as important as the rear of the car.

I could not get mine to leave unless the track was killer. raised the front of the car 1.5 in and adjusted some other stuff so the travel was still about 5" and it is working very well. I also found that tightning the struts just a touch helped also.
