So I'm going to take my coupe to the strip in a couple of weeks for the first time with slicks. I may or may not have N20 on it then, also for the first time. My car is gutted, no sway bars, interior, etc. with a GT40P explorer long block, TFS stage 1 cam, ported Typhoon intake and open headers. I have 90/10's up front, 50/50's rear, solid adjustable uppers and UPR nonadjustable solid bushing lowers. I don't have subframe connectors YET. I have the 4 cyl springs in front and I think I have them in the rear too but I don't remember, whatever the case it's got a helluva rake. Now if I heat these slicks up good and dump the clutch at 5 grand, is likely to hook or do I need more chassis stuff before I can try these sorts of things? What if I'm spraying a good 100-150 shot? Sorry for the dumb questions but I've never raced with slicks before and don't wanna make an ass of myself. BTW- I have the stock rear diff, 4.10's and moser axles.

It really depends on what kind of clutch you have and how hard the car hooks. I broke 2 stock axles leaving at 5k rpm on a 150 shot with a clutch that didnt give one bit. The car was dead hooking. If you have a stout clutch....more specifically a Spec Stg 3... I would error on the safe side by spinning a little before breaking the trans or axles. I am speaking from experience. I would start with the air pressure high and let the car spin just a little and try and find the sweet spot. Just my 2 cents.. I'm sure there are plenty of good ideas that will be posted. At 5000 rpm launch, if it does hook, no subframe connectors = major chassis twist. may make for an interesting launch, be prepared for it to go any place but straight. Not only is chassis twist hard on the car, but it takes away from performance, energy (power) is waisted wraping things up rather than making useable forward motion. Tranny will be your weak point mechanically. Run as much air pressure as you can get away with, I suggest starting around 10.5 cold.

I would say that with the king cobra clutch you are safe to do some hard launches. That clutch is stout but it will give just enough to be nicer to the rest of your drivetrain. What size slicks are you going to be using? I am a firm beleiver in subframe connectors. I ran my car hard before putting subframe connectors on it and it twisted up quite a bit. SO much that when I had it painted they noted the wrinkles in the body behind my 1/4 windows in front of the hatch.

26x10-15 MT ET drags, I actually just got some SFC's today unexpectedly so I might be able to put them on after all.... My hatch has those wrinkles that you speak of LOL...
