I didn't hook up my VSS and it's just fine. No problems at all.
At first, I didn't hook up my fuel pump wire either. I had no problems there, but I hooked the wire up just because it was relatively easy. After hooking it up, it made no difference good or bad.

Back in 94 or 95, I used the Ford Racing conversion kit to convert mine:

When I run a code scanner, I get:

CODE: 29 (Continuous) - VSS Input Error
Engine: 5.0L
Year: 86-93
Description:
Insufficient input from the Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS)

If I was going to convert from Speed Density today, I wouldn't get that kit. I'd get a Mass Air computer from either the salvage yard or an autoparts strore. I'd get an aftermarket meter and this stock Ford Mass Air harness.

I'm going to pick up one of these "Engine Harness and Controls Package" when I drop my next motor in.
