Ok been reading here a while but this is my first post. I have been playing around with my 1979 mustang coupe a little and was just wondering what your thoughts where. My questions are what is a safe Rpm to set the rev limiter at and what rpm should i shift at? what kinda hp should i be making and what can i do to get more? Car weights 2760 and here is my setup. Its a 347 stroker motor stock 302 block girdled, all forged internals H beam, 1.6 7/16 stud, comp pro magnum roller rockers, Ford Racing M-6500-R302 hydraulic roller lifters, eagle rotating kit 4.030 bore x 3.400 stroke .030" overbore 5.400 rod length -6.5cc flattop Keith Black pistons and AFR 185s 61cc no egr or air pump springs upgraded to 8015s valves upgraded .50l, 6350 5/16” .80 wall push rods Victor Jr intake and prosystems 780 db, holley blue electric fuel pump regulated to 5 lbs, COMP Cams Xtreme Energy Camshaft Intake 565 Exhaust 574, .006 tappet lift 282 and 290, Long tube headers not sure what kind H Pipe 2 1/2 inch mandral bent with 2 chamber flow masters MSD 6a ignition system. I was told 10.6 to 1 but looking at the paper work it looks like 10.2 to 1 on compression. This is backed by a wcT-5 thats been beefed up, Pro 5.0 shifter, 8.8 with 410's and eaton positrac, upr tubular upper and lowers, gt springs in rear and 4 cycl springs in front, lakewood 50/50s in rear and junk shocks up front soon to be 70/30s. 15/4 and 15/8 Weld rims with 235/60/15 MT et streets. Electric fan and over sized alum radiator h20 temp.about 175 must of the time. BTW the car dynoed 309rwhp at 14 btdc on a mustang dyno.

Sounds like a very nice set up.What is the rpm range on your camshaft? I would think 6500 shift point and 6800 rev limiter' Your hp seems a little low, I have a similar motor in my shop that made 410hp. Was it dyno tuned? For more power have the heads worked by a good induction shop, and install a solid roller camshaft. You could probably add some timing also. Was your carb built for this motor? Fuel pressre sounds a little low too.

Camshaft 3000-6500, carb was custom built by prosystems, dyno tuned to a extent they said i needed the bigger 1-3/4 headers, and a high torque starter so he could advance timing further. I heard that there was no need porting AFRs. maybe the intake?
