I use peppermint oil soaked cotton balls. I place them under hood where they would hide. I buy at local health food store. I'm in country with pasture land all around, works really well for me, I place them all around house also.

Seriously, I have one of those enclosed zip-up bags for mine. No worries there.

They come under the garage doors, to the sides of the door where it meets the garage door frame.

Mice can squeeze into or under things the size of a US Quarter.

Put real breaking neck snap-traps on either sides of the garage doors (or glue traps) on the interior of the structure.

The object is to kill them at the point of entry - not after they have already breached the perimeter.

If there's any other areas that can be breached - do the same around or near that door (garage door or man door), sills, etc. you could place the traps outside before the doors too.

Stick a few cats in it prior to putting the tarp on it.
