I wish I could send you pics...my car is in the garage...still buried in snow:-( I have an 88GT. I removed the dash housing and used sheet metal screws to mount the tach. The reason I removed the dash was to use a piece of sheet metal for support and stability from the inside. Just screwing it in may cause the tach to pull through the plastic or cause it to crack. As for the wiring, I notched (small enough to pass wires through) the base of the dash housing. I ran all my gages to the dimmer for illumination. Hope this helps.
Yup, you will definetly want to through bolt it and add a backing plate on the backside and maybe some lok-tite on the bolts. I used a rectangular piece of 1/8" aluminum for my backing plate, thing is solid. I first just screwed it in and used some epoxy, but it would always become loose and almost fall off, now no problems. Same setup as TC89LX
