Ok on my 89 gt hatch I was fixing the speedo by replacing the cable
So it's running a 3550 tremec and the VSS was damaged so I had to get a new one
AFAIK only the 95 cobra R came with that tranny stock so I checked out the VSS for that application and it was a no go since it didn't have a spot for the cable
I just got one for a t5 and it worked out, installed it with a new cable from LMR, tested the speedo off the cluster by attaching the old cable end with a drill and it worked ok
Got everything buttoned up and tested the car up on jack stands, the speedo was jumpy from 0-40 but smoothed out after that
After getting it on the ground and test driving it I now have 2 problems
First is now the lights one the headlight/fog and flasher/defrost switches don't light up. I recall these lighting up when the headlights are on correct?
The switches themselves still work but no illumination, double checked the connections and wires on the back of the connectors making sure they were snug
Checked all fuses and all were good

Second is once I got it on the ground the speedo doesn't work, the odometer and trip meter are now working but no speed

I'm guessing I need a new speedo...

Sorry for all the questions but I'd rather make one thread than a bunch of separate ones

For the map light if the bulb doesn't work, what is the next thing to check. Already have a new bulb in there

Also for the 12v outlet, fuses were all good but it's still not working
What should I check?

I also have some driveline vibrations and dialed it down to the driveshaft
For getting an aluminum unit will a stock length fox driveshaft work fine with the 3550 tremec
I'm not 100% sure if it's the stock shaft on there now, the guy I got the car from didn't even ever mentioned it had that transmission. I was fully expecting it to be a t5
Also what's the best option to get one of these for a decent price
I'd rather buy new than to salvage and get work done on it

I'm also planning to get a new clutch cable
Is the Maximum motor sports cable or actual OEM the way to go
It currently has an aluminum quadrant but no firewall adjuster, should I get one
The cable thats on there now works fine but it's an adjustable on the end and only has one nut, no lockout
Idk if it's a junk aftermarket adjustable or a quality unit, I'd rather just get a whole new cable for piece of mind

Sorry for the long post and thanks

speedo

the cable has the driven gear on the end of the VSS, this gear meshes with the drive gear, in the trans.

re-inspect the driven gear on the vss, if it is chewed up, there is an issue with the drive gear in the trans, alignment or the gear is done

to replace the drive gear, the trans needs to come out, or the tail housing has to come off.

electrical

you need a good wiring diagram, to id the circuits to test.

you have one?

I don't have any books or diagrams yet for this car

I'm going to do some testing and if I can't get any of the electrical fixed I'll track down an EVTM

When I did install the new speed sensor, the red gear was in pretty good condition
Would the gear even be a problem though, doesn't the speedo and odometer run off the cable, my odometer works but the speedo doesn't.

your odometer works, but not the speedometer..........aahhhh

yes, go straight to the cluster and remove it, and see what is going on.
