Hey guys,

Searched the Corral, but couldn't find exactly what I was looking for...

I'm looking into getting a harness for my '92 to help keep me in my seat while I AutoX. I ran my first AutoX about 2 months ago and this was a huge problem for me. So for the time being, I just want something to keep me secure and stationary.

I have been tossing around the idea of two different harnesses right now:
1. Schroth Rallye 4 ASM

perks - Bolts to rear passenger seatbelt tie-down locations, can be disconnected if needed to use OEM 3-pt harness

2. Corbeau 4-pt harness and harness bar

From a quick glance at the corbeau website, it appears their seatbelts may attach in the same fashion.... "somewhere in the rear of the vehicle."

So let me ask this since I am not 100% familiar... What is the purpose of the harness bar? To prevent compression of your spine if in a crash?

I just watched the CJ Pony Parts video on installing the Corbeau seats and harness bar and the harnesses get tied around the harness bar. Is it preferred to do it this way over bolting them to the floor in the rear?

As far as the rules go....
1. 2016 SCCA Solo rules section 3.3.1 states.....
"Seat lap belts are required in all cars and must be installed in cars with passive
restraint systems that do not include a lap belt. Installation and the use
of shoulder belts or harnesses is strongly recommended"

2. 2015 NHRA rules section 10:5 states ....
"A quick-release, 3-inch-minimum-width driver restraint system,
with a 2-inch crotch strap, meeting SFI Spec 16.1 or a 2-inch-minimum-width driver restraint system, with a 2-inch crotch
strap meeting SFI Spec 16.5 is mandatory in all cars in
competition required by the rules to have a roll bar or a roll
cage.
A roll bar is only needed on cars 11.49 or quicker.

If this is a daily driver and all you need is something to keep your butt in place while autocrossing you may consider the following...
CG-Lock Performance Add-on for your Seat belt
I use one in my daily driver with good results.

Some good guidance on mounting harnesses can be found in the SCCA GCR. NASA also has good guidance.

Look for the section called... 9.3.19. DRIVER’S RESTRAINT SYSTEM starts on page GCR - 87

Basically you want to minimize stretch which is the advantage of a harness bar or roll cage setup with harness wrapped around the bar.
Also it is critical to have the appropriate angle for mounting points to help protect you should you crash.
Most manufacturers also have very good guidance in their instructions as well.

I buy used harnesses on corner carvers. As you are just auto-x'ing and not road racing, that may be a more economical route for you to take.

I think the Schroth 4pt would be the quickest, easiest way to do it. As mentioned in another thread recently, I've used a Schroth in my Subaru for auto-x duty for years.

I've thought about the CG-Lock as well. It's actually what my instructor recommended my first outing. I wouldn't call my car a daily driver. I do try to drive it as often as i can, but this only ends up being 1-2 times a week :frown2:

Maybe I missed it, are you running a stock seat. If so change that first, I just swapped mine for something with shoulder and thigh support, I'll never go back.
I use a redneck CG lock, the little stamped metal piece that comes with all infant car seats. It does the same thing only not as easy to adjust, but free.

I do have aftermarket seats. Not the best, though, but they're there.
