Well after just about finishing my 89 FHP coupe, 5.0 vortech S trim, 5 spd, 3:73's, Cobra intake, just bought all new a/c components, comp, cond, evap core and hoses and havn't charged it yet I've decided to do an LS1 car again. I miss my old one. What did it for me this time, I went to the track and the dam car is so heat sensitive due to the supercharger I had to wait to make frickn 3 passes due to a line of cars. Pass, wait to cool off, pass again wait till cool enough and just not fast enough for a power adder car. My LS1 car I could make pass after pass with no cool off period even with the a/c on. leave in drive, a/c on and run 7:40's with 235/60/15 tires.

My old LS1 car Super sleeper

only gauges in car, rest was factory gauges that all worked

under the hood with only one stage hooked up, later I had the second stage hooked up

and the car that is sacrificing itself to the LS1 demon Gods

I'm sure I'm forgetting some stuff but man this was almost a full time job to find this stuff lol.
Motor should go in about 2 weeks and running in about 3 and then having Formatto tune it on the dyno
Hoping somewhere around 480-510 streetable hp.
Goal is 10's on motor and then 9's on nitrous, all with small tires and under the stock hood like the reef blue coupe thats pictured.

What do you mean heat sensitive did it overheat? What was the best your car ran with the s trim and what h/c/I was on the motor? Im guessing stock 302ci? If it had a mild h/c/I and pushed around 12psi it should have been good enough for low 11 second passes af 128mph my old combo was. Best of luck with your new combo!!

no it didn't overheat, just running warmer then usual when in line at the track event. there was over 200 cars all running the same event. It only has a cobra intake, and 2:00 60's it ran only 8:60's. Luckly I have some good friends that will do the main work for me as I ran out of steam as everything settle's in now. To be honest my wife always wanted me to do another LS car as she knew how I loved the old one but when she got real sick a few years ago I just lost motivation and sold it and but never told her why.

Jeff, she left me a letter and one of the things she said was to build or buy a LS1 car. She said it would be good therapy for me. (she always had everything planned out) Not sure but it does take off some free time which I dont need.

Subscribed..as I may well do this when the SBF gets tired/hurt in my 85 LTD. I don't have any "brand loyalty" as this is a "budget" car that I want to keep cheap, yet haul a$$..and driveable with acceptable fuel mpg, while looking stock:cool: Any guesstimate on what it will cost when fully completed? <---I'm talking motor/trans/mounts/driveshaft/exhaust/fuel system/cooling system/engine management, etc.? We did a 400SBC swap back in the 1980's & had to fabricate everything..NOT fun,but it did run better than most any SBF then!! Exhaust/oil pan were the two main PITA items & the LS motors look even WIDER,or are my eyes fooling me??? Speaking of engine management/wiring..how are you handling that? THAT is the most intimidating to me. Thanks & I wonder,at the end of the day...how does the LS swap compare cost + performance wise to an EFI 408W/AOD/4r70 combo:confused:? I've seen a few relatively mild EFI 408W motors that were driven daily, got good mileage, but run 6.50-5.60's 1/8th mile on the spray, and are as reliable as the sun rising. No matter what tho...Being that your wife left specific instructions..and she knew what you liked..I'd do it anyway. Thanks, good luck & looking forward to updates.

well Black coupe is up for sale, I tracked my old coupe shown in the first pics and found it in NJ and bought it back. My wife past away this year and she wanted me to do the black car to a LS car. The reason was she knew I sold the reef blue car because when she got sick I was done with cars. It was her favorite of all the cars I have owned and you have to realize I met her in 1978 back in HS. I think she would rather have me buy back the reef blue car. We had some fun times in that car including letting my daughters drive it at the track. This car is priceless to me now.

Glad to hear you were able to get your old car back..esp. since it had sentimental value, and was sorted out:). I was personally looking forward to your build..but there are others out there I can copy. Too bad I'm not in a better spot financially,I'd be all over the parts you have..:crying:

well the blue car we pulled out the 5.7 has a rod knock, that we knew when buying. It has TEA stage 3 cnc heads, fast 98 intake ported by Vengence, RPM trans and a Circle D conv 4000 stall, 8.8 3:55, but still had my small cam. Car runs high 10's on motor and still has A/C. We just finished putting in the 6.0 and just waiting on the stainless Kooks headers to arrive so I can fire it up.

a lot better parts on it as it went 11:40's with me and now it runs 10:60; to 10:80's all motor now. The trans and converter was a big step up. He spent just spent 5000 on the RPM trans and 1100 on the Circle D converter. He upgraded the rear to 33 spline axles, spool, team Z anti roll bar, I had 10 holes 4 lug and he put the Wildwood brakes and nice weld rims with all new tires all the way around. Going to put new bearings and rings in the 5.7 and then not sure what to do with it. My 6.0 should put 100 hp more to the ground but as of now thats still on paper till its actually ran.
