Dont do what i did last Saturday...ugh what a waste of time and another headache.

Went to three different parts stores looking for the high pressure power steering line that goes from pump to rack. (mine has a pin hole in it)

I finally get one for an 89 mustang. Get to the shop removed the old one, cannot get the new line threaded into the rack to save my LIFE! Im taking like an hour of trying to thread this nut into the rack, i tried from the side, from the front, from underneath im like WTF! this is insane....Then i realize i have an 03/04 Cobra rack... Son of a B!

return the line now im about to order a new 03 line form cjponyparts.

Sidenote how would i hook up a power steering cooler into my setup? Wait i think i figured it out, you use the return line off the pump.

I used my same line as well. Sometime during the Fox years, IIRC, they changed the fitting on the back of the pump from a SAE to metric. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

If that's the case, and you have the SAE, the line you got won't work at the pump.

Huh. I bought brand new fittings from Earl's, was going to have a local speed shop make the line for me. I'm going to have to take a closer look at that. I picked up the adapters from Maximum though...

Did you have to change the line to something different when you put the Cobra rack in the car originally? If not, the Fox part should be fine now as others are suggesting. Pretty sure when I had my 89 project on the go a few years back, a Fox pressure hose from NAPA screwed in to the Ford reman Cobra rack OK.

cheers

I got the cobra rack back in 2011/12 and honestly dont remember if i used the lines off my car or the lines that came with the rack. SO i have no idea. I need to get the car up on a lift and maybe loosen the rack bolts and pull the rack down a few inches to get me more room, trying to install the line from the front of the car when shes on the ground was a pain.

It's a lot easier to just build your own lines. That's the route I took and the hardest part was fighting the dang steering nub at the firewall. When they say be careful not to tap it back to far, they mean it!

As for the lines I converted everything to PTFE and did away with the rubber lines that breakdown over time.
I got a cooler from Summit with-6 male ends. I'm running a turbo and have a lot of stuff going on in the front.
I put the cooler in the driver fender and mad sure no air could pass by it. (Yeah). A non turbo car should be cake.

At $69 for 1 hose, you could have built a custom PTFE setup. Not sure why people still insist on buying pre made hoses and continue to fit it?? Once you learn how to do custom work, there's no comparison.

Going forward i will have to do this, however i need the car driveable, lots of stuff going on in my life right now, and making acustom line for a racecar, is on the bottom of my list. I just need her back together again.

Finally got the correct PS hose, so the fox one didnt work (duh, forget that i had a cobra rack when in ordered it)

the 03/04 cobra hose didnt work from CJPony parts, hopefully i can return it ($70 dollars)

so i went to autozone a few days ago, told the guy "i need a high pressure hose for the power steering for a 1995 Mustang)

it worked! its all back together! turns out i must have some SN95 rack, ill have to find the part number on this rack.

I still think you should have just made a custom line.
I added a cooler and built all the AN fitted PTFE lines in less than a half hour. Done.
Back driving the car later the same day.

At least you got it done. How's the feel? You like the road feed back? When I went to the MM solid shaft & Cobra rack, it felt like a thing of beauty!!

Well, luck has it I actually have parts of the turbo system out right now for upgrades and ceramic coating. So yes, I can get a few pictures that are not so cluttered.
Not much going on. Just a couple short runs of left over PTFE line. Hence the Silver & Black line. Top side of the engine I ripped out the Silver stainless line and put in all black plastic coated line.

I just used a AN fitting for the PS pump, and wished I could remember the part number. It just a simple fitting and washer if you Google it.

On the rack I just used the MM conversion.
I also used some heat shield sleeves as my exhaust manifold is flipped.

My car had the bare aluminum tube that is supposed to be the cooler. Not sure if it works, but figured can't hurt so I left it. Also wanted to run a cooler, so I picked the absolute worst place to install it and made sure it had near zero air flow. God bless turbo cars and stuffing 20# of you know what in a 5# sack. I was out of real estate so it is what it is.
Picked up a cooler off Summit or Jegs with -6 AN fittings pre brazed on.

Cut some old rubber line as protection for the lines.

As far as plumbing & line work. It didn't take much longer than a 1/2 hour. Obviously you can get more creative than I did, but you get the picture.
