Well it was 7 years since I drove the fox at the strip, done about 100 miles on it with new combo. Bit of a rush job to get it half ready. First time I've ever trailered it..very enjoyable. Forgot all my routine, put slicks at 12psi, strange struts 8 clicks rears 5 clicks, arb neutral, no 2 step, MSD not hooked up. Pretty anxious so first to the line to get a settler in. Not even done a burnout since 2011. 31 degrees sweating in my suit. Line lock on dump clutch..2 seconds later bang...large fireball over hood and fire. Luckily the track crew were on it and was out quickly. Nitrous not armed bottle shut( was like a nitrous explosion) discovered it was my fuel solenoid leaking past and I had not checked the line to the spray bar (not tight):shakehead My bad, noids were sent to NX to be serviced but sat for a year. Took apart reassembled and now fine.
I'd heat wrapped all the loom, so got away with no damage apart from that being charred/melted and air filter worse for wear.
Went back round later and got 2 passes in feeling even more stressed and worried. Cocked up burnouts and just dumped clutch, forgot to powershift and peddled a tiny bit on couple of shifts Think due to lack of confidence, seat time.
Came away with a 1.45 60ft 6.8 @ 100.8 mph 10.71 @ 127.2mph. All things considered quite pleased and called it a day. Needed to get it home and go through it properly. I had no intentions of spraying it so overlooked it.
Learned I need to be less slapdash and never to moan about wearing my safety gear again, Could have been horrid had it been mid track etc;
More seat time, remember to powershift etc; (mind blank after Incident) think I've got a low 10 @ 129-130 in it. And ultimately 9 second street legal stick shift.
Cam, rings, 2" primary headers and Trans geared towards spray, but that's far off at the mo.
Real happy with my Fordstrokers 427 as wanted mid 10s at 125+ and. I've only tuned it on the road with a wideband.
First time I've ever let it rip, and not the best of drivers. I forgot going in a straight line is not as simple as it seems.

Lol sounds like a hectic outing but exciting nonetheless. Glad you got out there and hopefully it motivates you to push further.

Awesome man...glad you got to run it
You have a similar combo to mine 427/tko600 . Yeah pretty good times for your first time out in a long time.

Thanks guys. Gone for a bit of NMRA look even though I'm in Blighty. Folks here either really like them or not, look at them as a Ford escort. Just ahead of the Mustang II in popularity stakes! Lol Cars got another gear to go, 5th is 1-1 for spray, although will be getting a lot more seat time before that. As I've only drove it mildly on the road with the odd blip it was satisfying to open it up at last as It's such a noisy POS to bumble about in.Forgot what is like to hook up out the hole. Old combo went 351w went 11.5 @118 and 10.66 @ 132 on about 150 shot.
Running thru 3.5" collectors, 3" pipe to side exit (UK street legal..no dumps) single chamber mufflers.
Hoping seat time will get time down and 100 shot get me a 9....only reason I done this upgrade, although going that fast seems a bit daunting at the mo. So frustrated I never powershifted it, just fell into street habits...didn't even think DOH!
Deffo a culture shock going back to the strip, forgot everything, especially after clutch dump.

That's not the first time I've seen nitrous assisted cars on fire.

Years ago a guy done something similar at the drag strip. Drove '03 GT to the lanes. Bottle turned on I guess and solenoid stuck, filled engine. He hits the key and boom. The hood flew about 50' straight up, came back down and the corner of hit dented the top of the car. Not to mention the noise. It wasn't quiet the least bit. Exploded intake manifold obviously.

Seen another one break at the starting line. Car didn't roll 5 feet and it went boom, caught fire, and of course the nitrous being a bit of an oxidizer wasn't helping matters any. Was fixable but was going to be a BIG project to fix. I think it was sold.

And that's not counting the hundreds of cars I've seen with either a poor tune up, failed part causing, etc....with destroyed engines.

Stuff works great but it's not for me. I'll stick to methanol and maybe a little pop mixed in.
