Took my 347 1987 coupe to the strip for the first time last wed nite. 60 ft 1.924 12.287 @ 117.88 mph. I was slipping the clutch at 2500 and slowly applying full power in 1st gear. Ran 3 runs that way best 60 was 1.924. Im going back this wed nite would like some pointers on drag radial launching. I was gonna try 3000rpm dump to the floor and see how bad it spins.vehicle weighs 2715 without me. Also has 355 gears ,subframe connectors, megabyte jr lower control arms and lowering springs which dont help. Im running bfg drag radials @ 14 lbs should i go to 12 lbs? Id like to sneak it into the 11 s........Thanks

Launching on BFGs

When I was racing on BFG drag radials I found my best 60 ft. times came when I really heated them up before staging. Eight to ten second burnouts at 4,000 to 5,000 RPM usually did the trick. They didn't last long with that technique, but they usually hooked, even with aggressive launches. I've since switched to Hoosier QTPs.

Best to date for me is 1.85 on 255/50r16 M/T drag radials with combo in signature. I have to leave at idle then roll into the throttle, I tried leaving at 3000RPMS and the car did a 3.02 sec burnout.

yank the sway bar and put 18psi in the DRs, drive around water, back into the leading edge of the water box, smoke the tires till you start to see a little smoke in the mirror and drive out...no dry hop, stage and start at 3500 and make the tire hit, slipping the clutch from 2500 is not doing you any favors.

Got back to drags wed nite. Jturmanator i used your technique and i got better 60 ft times. Heated bfg s up better and left at idle and rolled into full throttle. 1.850 60 ft 11.901 @118.84mph backed that up with 1.896 60 ft 12.036 @118.98. I have video but i cant post here. How many posts do you need to be able to add pics/video? Thanks for the tips

I have a similar set up in my 88 coupe. I did a few drag radial runs a couple weeks ago running the BFG 255-60-16 on a 8" rim, 16psi. After a good burnout I was able to do a 4500 rpm launch 1.77 60ft--7.69 @ 91mph 18th mile. The next pass I spun the tires bad. So I think with drag radials you've got to have the technique down to make consistant passes. IMO.

be careful when you drop the tire pressure below 13lbs. Make sure you mark the tire and rim. You don't want to get a flat!
