Ok guys, I'm at the point with my stang where I really want to finally get to finance my 5.4 rebuild. I have a 98 gt vert with a stock longblock 5.4 dohc navi-headed, boss 302 intake with bolt-ons. I have planned on an e85 nasty N/A build. Now that i recently moved to VA, I've realized they must not believe in e85. The original plans were 12.5:1, lightweight rotating assembly, e85, possibly carb'd, fully built navi or cobra heads...... shooting for a torque-monster. Now with that budget in mind, I've been contemplating on a reasonably priced 6.0 higher compression, cammed, N/A carb'd or efi swap and sell what i have now to offset the cost.

With all that said, I know a good est. on what a built 5.4 will make. I need to know what kind of power and torque can come of a naturally aspirated 6.0 with a reasonable budget. So, convince me with some numbers on some mild builds only N/A. I'm open to stroked 6.0's, aftermarket headed, bolt-on's, or even just cammed and exhaust.

It would be great if some of you could list your dyno numbers and what are your set-up's. I am open to 5.3's or any other swaps as well.

car has gone faster, but here is the first combo. 1998 LS1 motor with Texas speed 225 585 lift cam. this was a very mild cam back in the day. Also had better valve springs. BBK 1 3/4 headers that where originally 351 headers, Mail order tune, so Camshaft only motor, a 4L60e with a 3200 yank converter and 3:73's. All stock 4 cylinder suspension (ALL STOCK) full interior and full weight with a/c and p/s. drag radials it went 11:60s. and with a 100 shot of nitrous it went 10:80's and gets 21 mpg's and you can drive it anywhere. Also this was leaving it in drive. My daughter sticks in drive, leaves a/c on and with 235/60/15's she went 7:80's. Very mild motor. I think it was around 345-365 hp range on dyno.

And that's the 5.7 used in the early 2000's correct? Like Camaro, vette, firebird.... Right?

So, do you think a re machined used lq4 6.0L cammed and possibly stroked would be easily a 400rwhp engine N/A?

mine was a 98 Trans Am motor with the worse heads 241's and pcm. 99 and up was a lot better. 400 shouldnt be a problem. My new combo should be close to 500 and its pretty mild compared to some other builds, but that what happens when your heads flow close to 350 at 600 lift lol.

I think just basically you have to decide how fast you want to go. 11's should be easy I would believe with any of the LS motors with a mild cam and suspension. My new combo which is very mild, should run 10's on the motor and with a small amount of nitrous run 9's.

My thought process is, if I can do a cammed and stroked 6.0L build for around the same price as doing major head work and cams plus new pistons and rods for my 5.4, it's kid of a toss up. Both would be great motors N/A the 5.4 fully built should make in the 450 range. I'm assuming a stroked and cammed 6.0 should exceed 480-500 if done right. My only problem with the 5.4, is it's expensive and limited to adding cubes. The 6.0 has lots of room.

How much does the lq4 or 9 weight not fully dressed?

New best...1.3007 60ft. Had to let off to avoid break out, but went 6.33 coasting at 96 mph. Slip says it should have been a 6.23-24.
