Hey, I'm looking at swapping in a 5.0 into my 98 and I just had a quick question about the computer? Is there only one in our cars? I interned at Caterpillar this summer and I know most of our machines have an engine and tranny ECM. The reason I ask is because I'm just gunna bolt it up to my v6 tranny at first and want to know if a computer from an auto would screw anything up?

Thanks guys, hopefully one day I'll have my V8:eek:

The ECMs (computers) go with the engines, so bring the one with the engine.

Transmission-wise, don't believe your 98 tranny will work with an earlier computer; it won't.

Get a tranny with the engine, my .02

I thought that the T5 on my v6 bolted right up to a 5.0? Is there a difference in the bolt pattern between mine and your trannies?

I know that I have a T5....I just didn't know if the auto computer would not be compatible with the manual tranny.
