So, since I blew up the stock block 306, I'm going with a different Cam with the Dart Block.. I had an XE264 in there before and it was a riot while it lasted. Now that I don't need to worry about RPM, I'll go a bit larger, but will keep the 3.27 rear for now because it drives so nice on the street.

Just for conversation, what cam are you guys running? I'm going with a 331CI this time around.

I just came across a Comp Cams Magnum which is very close to an F Cam, but has way more lift.

What kind of gains could you expect with the extra lift? How does an F Cam work with a 3.27 rear on a 5-Speed anyways?

If you haven't already bought the cam contact Freezy here on Corral and have him grind you one custom for your application. Off the shelf grinds can produce great power gains but you may be able to do even better. He made my custom units for my 2V and these made approx 100-120hp more power at the same boost level than the turbo grinds that were in it.

This would be the best move you could make, off the shelf parts give off the shelf results.

Dollar for dollar, you can't beat a custom grind. I had Ed(FTI) grind one for my Dart 331 turbo. No numbers yet as it's still in the works, but all accounts praise not only power, but driveability.

i'm running the f303 cam, was supercharged for 10 years car ran 11.7 in the 1/4 118mph with a 1.9 60ft. i switched to cx racing twin turbo gt35 kit. Still running the f303 cam seems pretty good so far.

There's a ton of grinds available. I don't need every ounce of HP.
There is more to a cam than every last bit of horsepower, there is drivability and how it works with whole combo. A phone call cast nothing to make to Bullet, Comp, Crane or Brian for help or their opinion on your choice. Either way good luck with which ever way you decide to go.

I ran an F303 on a 306” for years. [email protected] vacuum at 1000rpm. Passed emissions testing. Pretty lazy camshaft. Woke up with boost. Made sense at the time - fast forward 10 years and it wouldnt be my first choice. Consider a custom cam or at least have Buddy Rawls model your setup for the “optimal” off the shelf grind. The xtreme energy line from comp cams is a good place to start.

So the power comes on at about 3500? How high do you rev it? I wonder if a 3.27 would be to tall.
the power comes on fast, i did i quick drive around the block (small block) just testing stuff out. It hit 5lbs boost pretty fast, a lot faster than i would have thought. its based on cam and few other things on how fast the power comes on.

and to add i only took the car to 3000 rpm and i saw 5lb boost. Fresh rebuild with 0km or miles so didn't want to push her to much.

It also has a lot to do with exhaust housings how fast you build boost, you are probably some where around a .63 housing but back pressure will be a limiting factor at higher rpm. i switched to some .88 housing on my car when i kept having exhaust leak problems, but i also had the crappy designed CX Racing twin turbo headers. They do not work well with raised port heads since the tubes interfere with plug wires and plugs.

Your right on the housing, here is my turbos specs. and the plug and plugs wires clearance is sure an issue. But im hoping with all the header wrap and plug wire "condoms" will help with that.
