Is there a proper or best way to install one of these? The way I was thinking was to route a hose from the valve cover, to the tank with a breather on it and then on the outlet of the tank run that back to the intake manifold.

The other way was to just run the hose from the valve cover to the breather and cap off the outlet of the tank.

Is there a "best way" for this or does it matter. I recently put a breather filter just on the valve cover but after an autocross, I notice a messy build of oil spater on/around the valve cover. :(

This is on a SOHC mod motor that is naturally aspirated.

If you want to create a vacuum in the valve covers, then run the line to the intake... BUT... be careful that is un-metered air (not thru MAF), and may burn oil (if breather can doent catch it all) sucking oil into engine and making smokey exhaust.

The longer the hose to the breather tank, the more time it has to cool ("steamy oil") and condense and collect into the tank.

On my S-trim, I cannot run to intake, as that would pressureize it in reverse. Nor do I wish to feed steamy oil into the blades of the S-trim (gunk up impeller with slime). So I run loooong [dont laugh] radiator hose from the valvecover to the breather element. The hose itself is my catch can. (Also, acts as filler tube and allows me to pour into the engine, as I welded the valve cover tube right under the strut tower brace... DOH!).

I may need more coffee, but your described routing sounds like a large scale vacuum leak..

Can you route the original PCV system through the tank and be done?

That was my thinking as well... I have some pretty F'd up idea's so I just wanted to rule that out. ;)

The tank was larger than I expected and getting it where I wanted took some finger tapping on the ol' noggin.

Can you route the original PCV system through the tank and be done?
Here's what i've done so far. I bought a 30$ Summit breather tank. Inlet/outlet with top filter and drain petcock on the bottom:




The yellow "dot" is the outlet that is plugged.

I suppose ANOTHER option would be to remove the filter, block that hole off and then run a hose from the tank back to the intake. Would this be beneficial? On the other side/valve cover I just have a filter stuck on the OE PCV valve.

Personally, that's what I would do. It keeps vacuum on the crankcase at all times.

I did a similar setup on a turbo car that had blowby issues. I ran a catch can and a second PCV in the valve cover, and it worked great for my application.

Thats how I did it on our 01' Cobra. I'm going to do something similar on my fox soon.

Is a good thing its huge. Its a bitch to drain. Luckly its got a little valve on the bottom. :) Mine is the summit one as well. Funny it came with a JAZ logo and the JAZ one was twice as much.

2k2GT, which Summit tank are you using? They have several Moroso's and I know MMR is using one of them in a kit but I can't get the part number fomr them. Thanks.

Unless you are running a multi stage drysump or a vacuum pump you don't have crankcase vacuum. Running a small hose to the intake will not pull enough air to overcome the blow by. I made our valve covers on the LS7 with no openings at all and with a 4 stage Avaid pump we only pull a vacuum at certain RPM's
