So I have the On3 Rear Facing turbo setup on my 2002 GT. The wastegate that came with the kit was bypassing at the fire ring so I replaced it with another on3 38mm. Put it on and test drove the car and everything was fine. Right at 8LB of boost where it should be. Took the car out a bit later and punched it in 2nd. When I hit 3K it went from about 0lb boost to 18 before I could let of the gas and here is some of the results.

I guess it is MMR time for me......... Wanted it just not right at the beginning of the season.

You got that right. Luckily I was only about 4 houses down the road and could get it home.... Hey she still cranks ROTF....

I am thinking a MMR900 long block with upgraded Valve springs for boost should hold me for a while. I don't think the turbo would be able to make enough boost to max out that setup so if there is another wastegate sticking issue I may at least have a second to get off. Now for the 6K its gonna run.... need to start one of those donation sites.

overboosting can happen on any wastegate...my advice would be to get a good boost controller that protects from overboosting...this will not happen again..

sorry to see your bad luck

I agree but dont see how over boost can happen when the springs were set and tested at 8 psi and then next run it jumps past 18.

I am not going to knock on3 because i am not running their kit, but i have a tial knock off 60mm gate on my kit and it has a 6-8 psi spring in it and if i just roll into it, it goes to about 10. Not bad becuase i couldnt place it in the merge like they say, so i will accept the 2 pounds of creep. But if it is on the dyno or you just punch it or break boost it it will spike up to 15-18 pounds. Lucky for my i have a block that will handle it.

I am not knocking my on3 setup in general just the wastegate itself. I love the boost from this kit once you get it setup it spools fast (apparently too fast :idunno: )

Just trying to warn others from my mistake

Hopefully the mmr900 will be able to handle the over boost if I go with about 600RWHP and have this issue. I cant see my setup making more than about 18lb of boost.

Two comments. I would really do some research before settling with mmr, and second I would buy a quality waste gate. I also have the same on3 kit as you but I cut off the wastegate piping and went with 2" pipping and a pro gate 50mm wastegate in same location. I threw the on3 wastegate and thier leaking BOV in the junk pile. I have been running mine with 10 pound spring for 6 months and it is dead nuts on by the gauge and on the dyno.

Keltymd: If you wouldnt mind, I would like to pay the shipping both ways if you will let me test that gate to make sure its functioning correctly. If its not we will fix it or completely replace it. Shoot me an email as well to go over a few things, [email protected]

Email sent. And just to let everyone know. I am not saying On3 is crap or anything I am happy with the boost I am getting from it of I would have dumped the whole setup. I do not have the gate to send it any more, it went to the metal recyclers yesterday with the old engine, but what I did see it a tare in the diaphragm when it took it apart. I guess that let the boost by and it was expelled thru the top port so it never opened.
