I have a 74 351w block that I need to know what to do with in order to just store it. Right now I have no use for the block and I have it tore all apart. I am looking at gettting the block hot tanked but not sure what I will need to do after that in order to keep it from rusting.

What is the proper way to store a block?

Thanks,
Jason

if you are just going to store it, I reccomend coating all the important surfaces in beatring grease, the other methods work but might require you to re apply the stuff every now and then, but the grease wont, then just tank it when you are ready to use it

My dad stored an engine for more than 20 years using cosmoline. He said you would heat it up and dip the entire block in the vat, let it cool and pull it out. It has a consistency of a VERY thick grease, almost like vasoline. The block looked brand new when we degreased it with 100% mineral spirits 5 years ago. It was a 70 Boss 429 motor that he bought in 76. It now resides in a Cobra kit car.
