Ok I hope I can ask this question in here. I figure you X racers might know the answer to this.

I put new ball joints, inner and outer tie rods with lowering springs in the front of the my car. I also put new control arms and lowering springs in the rear, if it makes a difference. Anyways, I took the car to get an alignment and was told that I had a bad ball joint. To which I think is crazy. I asked if they see anything else wrong with the front, to which they replied that everything is in check and looks put on properly and the ball joints are seated and everything is tight, but the one ball joint is bad. I took what they said and left with my car for home. As soon as I got home the car was put on jack stands and did the normal push - pull test to which I was rewarded with no play. I dont understand with they are talking about. Is there some other test that is done that I do not know about other than the push - pull test?? Anything else one can thing of or do you think that since it was around 445 when they looked at my car and decided what they said at 525 when they close at 600 just to get of work on time? Im gonna get a second look from elsewhere and see what they say. Mostly Im curious.

I've always heard to take a crow-bar under the spindle and attempt to separate the spindle from the balljoint while checking for play...

I think my balljoints may be shot too so I am subscribing for ideas...

The guys on Car Talk say stuff like that usually happens when the shop owner needs to make a boat payment.

On the '79t through 2004 mustang the spring pressure pushes the control arm down, keeping constant upward pressure on the balljoint through the strut when the car is jacked uo (wheels hanging). To check for play in the balljount you need to support the ####rol arm to take the spring pressure off the balljoint.

They were able to tell the ball joints were new on their own. All they said was they were seated on the money but the one was bad. When I asked they gave me a run around on why they came to their decision.

I've done all the checks and have inspected BOTH sides of the car for anything lose and/or torn. I have found nothing.

I guess I'll see today or tomorrow when I get the chance to take the car to a different shop and see what they have to say about it. If they say the samething then I'll try one more, after I run home and double check everything, then call the people up I bought the ball joints from and raise hell.

I hope its nothing since I have engine mods that I would just love to put on.:leghump:

Well I decided last night that I would just go ahead and pull the ball joint out. As it turns out they were right in saying that it was bad (had a crack in it, not sure how it got there). However they still could not give me an answer? Still wondering how they got that one right.

Now the only question I have is finding one to match the other or do you think I should replace both again? I really dont have the time to wait for who I bought these from to send me some new ones since I bought these online.

Maybe they cracked it at the shop to try and drum up some work....j/k?

I just bought a set of Moog ball joints off ebay, they were $39 with free shipping for the SET.... before I ordered them I checked a local parts store and they wanted $53 for one Moog.

I bought my front end kit off e-bay as well. I took the time to check everything but the ball joints. Atleast one was good. I think I just got the raw end of the deal and recieved the 1 in 1mil that turns out to be bad.

I kinda need my car so I might have to spend the 53$ for the MOOG since thats what I bought. Just a drag I really dont want to do this task again so damn soon, lol.
