So my son notices when he starts his car (91 LX), his #8 fuse is blowing. This has happened twice now, once last week and now about a week later. Any typical things to look for? It looks like the hood light and hatchback light are on #8, as are electric mirrors, vanity light, map light, part of the radio, and dome light. Probably glovebox light too. Would not having the lighter plugged in hurt anything? He took the lighter out a couple weeks ago (no coins fell in, promise)?

thanks for any help-

Problem is it intermittent. By short to ground, that would be the same as short to power, right. In other words, it's gotta be 12V + touching ground.

Going off memory I do not think it does. My factory manual is at work unfortunately.

Easy test if that's the case, pull all the bulbs and the stereo. Turn key on, see if fuse is still good. Prob. will be at that point. Start putting things back in until fuse blows.

Thank you sir. So how about the mirrors - just assume it's probably not them? How about the light down inside the lighter/storage console? I can't remember if that bulb is on fuse #8 circuit...

Well, the power mirror switch is just in the center console. Pop it out and disconnect it also. Won't hurt anything to try.

What I see often at work with similar problems (on any car) is people are always plugging things in/out of cigarette lighters. These plugs often have ends that unscrew, which is where the fuse is at. They come apart, people don't realize it. Those little metal ends lay in the bottom and shorts the power from the center pin to the ground of the outside and poof.

Just check all the easiest things you can first.
