looks like i will have some decent $$$ to play with soon, with tax time around the corner, i am having a hard time deciding on a LSX 6.0 with L92 heads or a 545 ci BBF , i want to run 9.90 or faster

i would think it would be easier and cheaper with the LSx.

smaller package, a lot lighter, make the same power with the same ease.

just my opinion.

im open to all opinions, i have no experience with the lsx motors, i would like to learn, on the other end i know a 545 with good heads will make 700+ hp, on the down side a good set of heads to feed a 545 motor cost about 3k, i will only have about that to spend on the car

a built LSx with some spray can make that too, on stock GM heads.

it would be pretty kick ass.

i would be willing to bet that a 550-600 HP lsx with go just as fast as a 700hp big block just because of the weight diff.

LSx would be a great idea, very stout engine with tried and true potential. Can't beat the new technology of the LSx either. Just keep it in the same chassis as the company that made the motor and it will be kick ass.

the only problem with your theory is that its actually torque that matters

Since a complete aluminum headed 545 BBF can be built for less than $6000 complete, I think the choice is obvious for a 9.90 car. Add minitubes, UPR suspension, adjustable coil overs, and some 12" slicks and you'll have a low 9 second all motor car with a less than $6000 motor.

Do more research and see just how cheap the BBF parts are.

I'd like to see this 545 for under 6k, care to make a parts list with prices?

Quick summary:

Complete heads from Jegs: $2100

Rotating assembly w/rings and bearings: $1500

Carb: $800

Intake: $300

Headers: $400

Cam/lifters/push rods: $450

This is a slight over estimation in prices but covers the most expensive stuff.

Obviously buying used saves a lot of money.

Thats 5500 bucks before machine work, and you dont have a block rockers, valve covers, timing chain, balancer etc. That would be an 8-10k dollar build easy. There is 6k just in parts.
