Just to let you know that I didn't just ask and run...........i ordered a clockspring on EBay and the package was stolen along with two other packages that were delivered last Thursday. POS people........anyhow, got another one coming and I'll pull the steering wheel and do as you suggest. I have one of those ohm sticks for testing the airbag circuit.
Indy, sorry, but I know very little about how to test the circuit. Electrical is my weak point. I removed the airbag and I have one if those diagnostic plugs that has the correct resistance to simulate the air bag. No change in the error code. Did the same thing after replacing the clockspring. So you are correct, I do not think the airbag or clockspring were bad. Beyond that, what you are suggesting is greek to me. I don't know what "isolate the circuit at the connectors " physically means
Yes please. I own a VOM and I can turn it on i use it checking voltages, continuety, and occasionally as an ohm meter if i`m following instructions. This car is assembled so I'm afraid that the next step may involve tearing the interior apart again. Some brief history that may help
The first code I had was a 22. I replaced the sensor in the B pillar with a brand new Ford sensor (that was the only Safing sensor I could find in the manuals). No change. Then I replaced the control module. That got rid of the 22 and now I have the 23 code. My understanding of the system logic is that it displays one error code at a time starting with the worst one. For all I know, there could be additional codes after this one. The module came out of a '92 that did not have any codes (also where I got the clockspring) so i think the parts are good but untested (I have no idea how to test them)
This car is all original and the remaining sensors are all in place and all connected. No wires are tapped into, etc.
The diagrams would certainly help. I have the wiring and vacuum manual but no airbag info in it. I can find all the connectors for the parts i'm aware of so the diagram should help me figure out where they all are. I am assuming you mean the physical connection plugs. Beyond that, like ground connections, I have no idea. Thanks for the offer.
Your other tool list: I don't have anything official. I have some pins and needles. I'll look on EBay for the test pins
Just wanted to close out this thread. Indy2000 was great. Sent me the wiring diagrams and advise. I started looking for a wiring issue. Fortunately, it was an easy search. One of the wires was broken at the rear crash sensor connector. Fixed the connector and airbag light is off.
