down pipe question

I have a t-60 turbonetic turbo and a HCI 302 motor. My question is i havent looked much into the rest of the exhaust and i was wondering how obnoxious or loud it will be with an open down pipe? its also a passenger mount kit. any recomendations on how to run the rest of the exhaust? single? dual with y pipe?

open downpipe isn't too bad but it does not sound great. I have a single 3" muffler that might get installed one day, but dual 3"s or 2.5"s would probably sound better.

Word to the wise, don't run a chambered muffler with a turbo setup.....Run some sort of straight thru muffler.....

DynoMax Race Bullets. The turbo itself quiets the car down quite a bit, running a splitter to tailpipes with those mufflers would be really quiet.

I have the hooker maximum flow for my car. It is supposed to be quiet at idle but loud at wot. The only bad thing about it is it should weigh more than those bullets.

i think im gonna go with that style muffler and run a single exhaust and just dump it right under the passenger seat. it seems the easiest and cheapest way.

ill check out the hooker max thanks

Hi Lumberjack,
I am still trying to decided if i want to spend
more on my exhaust and put some dynomax
bullets for a muffler on it.

All i did as a temporary solution was spit the 3"
into my existing flowmasters chambered mufflers.
No fumes and very quiet is the only word to describe it!

Maybe next year i will replace the 2.25 inch tailpipe section
and put on some race bullits but for now what i had was
a cheap solution to tie in a "Y" and use what was hanging
there.

did you just take the car to a muffler shop and have them fab out the Y and back into your mufflers or did you order one from somewhere?

It was loud at idle, a lot louder than I am willing to live with and especially for a street car. All my red neck neighbors loved it and though it sounded great.

I can not remember if we made it at the time or used the one that came with my turbo kit I had. I think we did not use the one that came with it because it was 2.25" I had a complete 2.5" h-pipe with cats and a complete American Thunder Flowmaster exhaust, we may have just cut pieces out of those in order to make it. I know for the turn downs we ordered a big 3" U bend from summit and cut out what we needed.

My car was obnoxious with just the 3.5" open downpipe. My temporary setup right now is a crush bent 3" pipe with a 3.5" dynomax race bullet and turndown right at the axle. The car is still pretty loud at idle and extremely loud at wot. I was going to redo mine with a mandrel bent 3.5" pipe back to the muffler but I'm reconsidering as its too loud now and will only get louder with the bigger pipe. I get comments all the time that my car sounds more like a harley than a mustang now

well dependin on how fast i get my motor assembled and rear end beefed up, if i dont have this figured out by then its gonna be just a single 3" down pipe into a bullet style muffler for now
