problem with boost

this is on an 87 grand national, but same concept. car only goes to 4lb of boost then cuts off. i'm not good with turbo's and trying to learn. any ideas on what to check? wastegate, boost control, chip, etc.

cuts off how? motor cuts out, motor shuts down, stumbles, what?

goes to 4 psi and runs fine but only hits 4 psi...more details please

hits only 4psi and runs fine. the car runs fine, and hasn't really been able to get a good tune, but the turbo is only hiting 4lbs of boost.

first thing would be to check all the connections to make sure you don't have a boost leak somewhere, then wastegate would be the next thing i'd look at.

91 lx hatch. Performer heads, Performer 2 intake, 1.7rrs, tfs 1 cam, pullied a-trim with power pipe, long tubes, orx pipe, and a magnaflow catback, [email protected] on 17" Nittos.

yep sounds like a leak. The wastegate regulates boost, so it might be stuck open. If that is fine the it will be on the cold side. Best bet is is a leaky fitting on your piping somewere or if those check out might be something with the BOV.

Yes, compressor outlet to throttle body.

I'd bet the wastegate actuator is broken or come loose.
