single turbo for 95 Cobra STREET DRIVEN

I'm looking for a single turbo for my 95 Cobra. I'm shooting for approx [email protected] that is well into the boost at 3000rpm.

Will a T04B Super H trim be sufficient? If more info such as a/r's or anything else is needed, please let me know. Also, how much should I expect to pay for one of these?

TIA.

I'm going to ask this on turbomustangs.com also, so sorry for the double post.

That turbo should be a pretty good choice for your goal, though you might want to move up to a T64 like I have...It would work real well with your set-up...

91 coupe: Dart 408,EFI, AFR 205's, FTI Cam,160lb injectors, 91mm turbo, A/W intercooler, Glide, 3.27's 921 RWHP @ 14psi and 93 octane & 1053 on 21 psi..

Hey Forced5,

Thanks for the response. There are three reasons I'm not going with a bigger turbo: added cost and spool time/responsiveness.

The car is a pig and needs as much help as possible in the lower rpms. It'll never be a race car.

Also, I want to keep the total cost to under $1000. I'm going to be hard pressed given I want an intercooler and I'll need bigger injectors w/TwEECer. I don't include the TwEECer in the total cost because I'm getting one of those, even if the car never sees more than the mods in it's sig.

Thanks for the reply, keep them coming folks.

unfortunately, I have been plagued with problems, an havent gotten to run the car... keeps popping HG's, converter got lost in the mail, took 2 minths to get it sorted out, and various other non turbo related problems....

I can say though that my buddie has driven a car that went 11.90's and he said mine would easily stomp it after driving mine... I was only at 9psi..

stall is at 3300, and with 3.55's it isnt bad at all from the few miles I have actually driven it... like 26- 2800 RPM on the highway..

When does your car build boost? How much did you pay for your T-64(if you don't mind me asking)?

w/ C-4, there is virtually no lag in my-setup at a dead stop if i floor it, boost hits almost instantly and pulls hard... I just took it for a ride, (during which I think I cooked another HG) and It still pulled like a [email protected]$&....

the T-64 will support 700+ HP, though it cost about $900 for the head unit...Actually right now someone on Turbomustangs.com is selling a T-66 for $650 and that will support about 750, though comparibly it is slightly better than mine...

I got my turbo as an option with my cartech Outlaw kit... I would have to look to see how much it actually cost... but you should be able to find a suitable Turbo for cheaper via Turbomustangs.com or ebay or something...

alot of people are also starting to run hoslets off of turbo diesels.. they seem to work pretty good, though I am not very familiar with them..

hope this helps

I've got a T-66 kit on my 95GT with the 347 in it. Still not tuned yet, but to give you an idea.... with the .81 a/r I see boost start in at 1800 rpm with max boost by about 2800 rpm. It spools pretty quickly, hopefully even quicker once I install the boost controller.

So with a 302, the T-66 would start building boost a little later since the engine is smaller than your 347.

Which OEM style turbo would you guys recommend for my setup. I wouldn't mind spending $650.00, but that would eat up the majority of my 1000 budget.

with a high stall convertor, you should build boost right away, right? Also you don't blow off boost when shifting, which is a plus. Autos, turbos, and the 1/4 are a combination you can't beat. Hey Forced, where in PA are you? I am in SE PA.

you'll probably keep blowing HG's until you can increase volume. i'd look into some machining options to decrease compression a but. what is the comp ratio now?

A T64 is not a big turbo and will spool like mad on a 302 motor. I had a T64 on my Grand National and it spooled very quickly with a 3000 stall. Get at least a T64 Bro.

I just picked up a T04E off ebay for 275 shipped. The only bad thing about is the large exhaust a/r 1.15. I am going to put it on there as is and if I don't like it I will get something smaller to spool up quicker. If I can see full boost by 3500rpms I will be content. I am also on that 1000.00 budget but I am already on track to over shoot that by about 500

That right there is 1600 so it could be more. Oh well it should be worth it in the end
