This is my first turbo build on a 5.0 ford. I have done chevy ls motors and import builds. Here the thing a friend ask me to build his mustang. It is right now a took apart .040 over 5.0 with a b303 cam. someone changed it to 4 barrel carb. He want it to be a turbo car. Right now the motor and trans are out. already told him he needs different cam and heads the heads being e7te head. most likely going with a f-303 cam. he is shooting for 400 to 450hp. i told him this build will be time consuming and not a budget friendly build due to the fact we currently do not have the right intake set-up, computer. I need a little help with a what he needs to get as a intake. Do i go to get a 96/97 v8 explorer heads and intake or go completely aftermarket. what kind of computer do i get for this? i know i need bigger injectors if going with injection. I just dont think a carburetor will give him the result he wants.
The B303 will work, but is not optimal. A stock HO cam with 1.72 would be good. F303 would probably ok, but the HO cam will make enough power to split a block.
Since EFI is gone and its carb'd, why not do blow thru? Blow through will make tons of power. I've read many many threads about blow thru 302's making plenty of power. Assuming your friends 400-450 is at the wheels he'd be approaching block splitting power. Blow thru will deliver this level of power.
Throw some gt 40 heads on it 93 -95 or explores and mountenires had them gt 40 or gt -40 p what ever is cheaper and it might need springs .Felpro 9333 head gaskets and arp head bolts kit .
I don’t think any aftermarket heads would be worth it.. why would you do gt40’s to gain 20 hp when you could make block splitting boost already? Especially if he’s on budget. I wouldn’t even bother with a cam change. I’d build the fuel system/ carb/turbo kit stuff, get it sorted and running and have fun while it lasts
I ran that setup for a while, ran good but over 10lbs it would lift the heads. I was also told it was because they were milled. I don’t know but it ran good. ( until it blew haha)
The reson I said 40 heads is you have to pull them any ways to put new head studs and some fel pro 9333s so why not throw on a little better head and gain more horsepower less boost and faster spooling .But yes one could get buy just pulling the stock heads and slipping in some new gaskets and head studs and keep vost down to tjat.
