MS PNP

Who is familiar with the MS PNP for fox body?

I calibrated TPS and verified timing.

Issue I'm having is car starts and runs for around 3 seconds then dies like someone turned the key off.

any help would be great. I gotta be missing someone here.

turbo kit, 55# inj, built in MAP sensor

thanks

Been texting you. Just to update the thread it is sounding like base timing was probably not set correctly so he's gonna go over it later.

i think it was a combination of things. double checked timing , set at 10 deg, spout out. verified TPS. also had to turn in idle screw about 2.5 turns. car won't idle "cold", tried yesterday. I'll keep at it, i have to help it run with throttle for maybe 30 seconds then it will idle. maybe the ASE ? Afterstart enrichment ?

I'm new to this and learning daily.

thats your problem. never take the spout out with the ms. you leave it in always at set timing using the trigger angle in tuner studio and a timing light.

go to ignition

click ignition options on the top

at the top right you will see "fixed advance", set that to "fixed timing"

after selecting fixed timing you will see "timing for fixed advance" set that to 30. select "burn" at the bottom. start the car. if the timing light does not show 30* of timing on the balancer, your timing is set wrong

if your timing doesnt show 30 as you have set it to, look for trigger angle on the left side of the ignition options page. change that number up or down depending on how far off timing is. if timing is way off, i prefer to just turn the distributor to get it close and then use trigger angle to get it exact.

after you get timing on the balancer to read the same 30* you set your fixed timing to, go back to "fixed advance" and select "use table". hit "burn" at the bottom.

thats how you set timing, never take the spout out

This will confuse him for sure. The dizzy should be at 10 with Spout OUT. Without verifying mechanical timing with Spout OUT, he might not get the engine running well enough to perform the base timing procedure in MS with Spout IN. It's always advised (even by DIYAutoTune) to ensure the engine is at 10 mechanical (Spout out) as ford sets it from the factory before performing the timing verification through MS with spout in.

Confusing or not, he still needs to confirm actual timing compared to commanded timing

I had a timing problem with the spout out, the car woundn't start... timing was off initially, and when commanding timing with MS it would start but not make any power. This is my replay to a post from MSExtra Forum:

I had a somewhat similar issue with a Turbo SBF 302 on MSPNP. Car would not make any power it idle fine and drove fine, but it was not making the power it should (tested at the track, it was only traping 104mph in the 1/4). The car would die with the SPOUT out. I recheck the timing, and it was way off.

Brought piston #1 up to TDC.
Took SPOUT out, and re-stab Dizzy.
Turn on car, rotate dizzy until the car started.
Verify (with SPOUT out) with a Timing Gun, and set it at 10 BTDC.
Turn off, Plug SPOUT in.
Hook up laptop open TS with current tune.
Set Fixed Table to *20
Open Timing Wizard
Turn on car, and check timing with light.
Adjust Wizard offset via TS until I see *20 BTDC timing mark.
Set to USE TABLE, and burn tune..

I ended up with 10* offset. But that was my case.

This is exactly why I state to set the mechanical base to 10 with spout out before doing anything with MS. My offset is 5.50 for some reason but could be due to old TFI with original electronics. Everything lines up perfect with MS though so I'm not fretting it.
