I'm finally ready to take my street/strip turbo car to the next level. My current combo consists of a nicely built 4-bolt 331 with a Pony Down B series stage 3 kit with a PT76GTS. I'm running a TH400 with brake and 3.27 gears.
The car ran 9.40 @ 144 at 18 psi this past Fall...I thought about trying to get the car into the 8s with the current combo, but my buddy wants to buy my current turbo kit, and I'd like to move into a T6-based kit.
Now that you have a little history, my dilemma
which has me void of sleep for several nights is:
Will an T6 flange basic S480 flow the air to put my car solidly in the 8s, shifting at 6700 rpm?
I'm leaning towards the 1.1 AR exhaust housing to keep my spool rpm reasonable because I still drive this car a lot on the street, but I hear that the 1.1 AR uses an 87mm turbine (will limit power potential?), whereas the standard 1.32 uses the 96mm turbine (won't spool until 10,000 rpm??).
I guess I just don't want to put a new shiny Pony Down T6 kit on my car with a S480 and the car be slower than it is now!
Another option I have is to have Jeff at PDP build me a T6 kit with a T4 flange so I can use the Mid West turbo that I have for sale on here: it's an SX400 with an 83mm compressor and a hybrid 1.0 AR exhaust with a 92mm turbine wheel...this turbo can make BIG power, but I don't want my new turbo kit to be limited to a T4 flange turbo.
Well, thanks for reading my book of issues...please let me know your thoughts and experiences
I plan to keep my full 3" exhaust with tailpipes, so the T6 kit would be plumbed accordingly.
Bottom line: I want a full exhaust 8.50 street car! Haha! I'm not asking for much!
