3.5 in cold side

Got a turbo kit that is supposedly a cartech outlaw kit for a 87-93 mustang. The kit has a t76 garret. Pre intercooler piping is 2.5 in and then post intercooler steps up to 3.5 inch. I was just wondering if there is any benefit to this. The intercooler is only 3 inch inlet/outlet. Seems way to big for any combination.

I'm running 3" from turbo to intercooler then 3.5" from intercooler to carb hat. S480/408sbf combo.

Garage
on my mod motor i had to use 3.5" piping to slow the air speed down going into the maf. not sure if its why yours is that way but its just a thought.

Some MAF sensors are rated/limited in HP by the MAF pipe size. I run an HPX MAF which is rated at 640hp in a 3" pipe or 870hp in a 3.5" pipe or 1100hp in a 100mm pipe.
