Turbo + high mileage motor?

I've got an 89lx that I plan on throwing a turbo kit on, and my question is how many of you guys are running boost on high mileage 302's mine currently has 148k on it backed by a oem rebuilt AOD with B&M shift kit and hammer shifter. The motor runs strong and the only leak I can see is a small one from the rear main seal area. I figure if I did run low to moderate boost I would def take some preventative measures and replace the head gaskets and install some head studs... Other than that I don't know really anything other to check or do to help make this old 302 handle some boost. Any help or experiences with boost and over 100k shortblocks would be appreciated.

Doing a leakdown test on your engine would reveal if its still healthy enough for boost.

I just turned 100k top end is new..oil pump..and timing chain all new..block hasnt been touched to my knowledge....just have a good tune..should be ok...And my car has had boost on it since almost new...when i bought it ..it had an old school paxton sn93 on it...and then i put a powerdyne on it and now a turbo....so i guess it depends on tune and how well you take care of it...

Turbo installed!!!!

I throw a B&G kit on a stock 95 GT with 189K miles on it several years ago. It held up fine for the 8K miles I had it on there before I sold the car.

809rwhp on pump gas + meth injection

That was a tough little engine. It even held up to me plumbing the boost controller wrong and it going to 25+ lbs for most of 2nd gear.

Put one on it and have fun....Stock motors are cheap.....I have flashed as high as 22lbs on mine for short bursts...Have mad several track runs around 17lbs...Yes its on borrowed time....Don't care...I have ran the piss out of it for 2 years now....still going strong...115k plus miles when I put the turbo on it.. I have put another 5k on it since the install.....Do it and have fun just make sure you don't run lean or get crazy with too much timing and boost....

95gt Dart block 363, TEA 205 Heads. 78MM Turdblower Custom cam, All fab work done by me....Moates tuned by me, AODE done up, yep I got overdrive. Drag radials, 327 rear. Next setup to come over winter...lol

^^ He's right, our 302 saw 25psi spikes when a wastegate line melted... ran great... We don't even tune our junk, complete builds including car for 4k or less. We did finally find copper in the pan of one after a 255 walbro gave up and it started detonating at 15psi, pushed a head gasket and we drove it home anyway haha... $500 for an exploder motor, sold the top end for $300 and had it running the next weekend as good as new. In the end of the day, it's just a 302.

Wow well it looks like I'm going to throw the kit on and have a blast, as long as I'm smart about it.

My speedo hasn't worked since I swapped from an AOD to a TKO, but I'm confident my motor has a lot of miles on it. It's a 91 coupe, I put a Vortech S-trim on it running 12lbs for 2 years or so. Now I have a 70mm On3 kit that is going on it. Make sure the tune is good and take care of it, you'll be fine.
