Since you lose 20% hp in auto why do people switch do the manual to auto swap? I'm thinking of changing out my t45 for a 4r70w but now not to sure. Your thoughts plz

Auto keeps boost up undr load to allow for more constant pressyre.. Everytime u granny shift a manuel u have to rebuild boost.. In a auto this does not occur

Depends on what your goals are for the car and your preference. It takes skill to row gears consitently and quickly making the automtic a better choice for your average guy at the track.

If your auto car isn't fun it's because it's slow.

+1...get into a 700+RW auto vs an 800+RW stick and you'll go auto each and every time...

how do I know...I made 809 stick and 775 with the auto...I'll never go back to stick after feeling the difference...

It's just plain better. Hell my car NA was even faster part throttle with what most people daily driving their car would consider a high RPM stall. It's just better.

When you got tired or replacing broken parts with your manual you'd wonder why you didn't auto sooner.

Ok so I was considering a t3650 swap on my auto 96 gt until I got to this tread.

Now I'm having second thoughts.
But not 100% convinced.

How does the advantage of an auto translate on the street from a role?

I don't condone street racing. But I did witness a turnpike confrontation between a challenger srt8 and what I think was a zr1 (I have a non pi 96 so I could only get but so close before they were out...don't laugh).

Sounds like built autos are good from a stop, but do they maintain the same advantage starting from say 40mph?

I'll need to know because I'm in the midst of a built 2v with the intent to go turbo.

The proper Auto matched to a turbo car is awesome..Mine is a little mis-matched being my stall convertor is a little low...But i have no complaints here..the car is Fast..never underpowered at all...its both great from a stop and great from a roll...My car has tire shreading power at 40 mph easy...with Dr's...lol

Just look at my mph compared to my et in sig below and you eill see why so many prefer an auto.

A turbo stick car is in my opinion is harder to drive vs a 5 speed nitrous, or all motor car with a crazy gear.

Stock block, GT40 heads, Explorer intake, 67mm, 10lbs, 431HP 497TQ on 110 octane. 12.01 @ 123

I have always liked to shift gears myself but after putting 12-1400 miles on our twin turbo 2011, I would have to say auto all the way. Your going to be much more consistent like mentioned previously, quicker at the track and honestly I enjoy driving it around the city more as well now.

If you are just driving the car on the weekends and really not seeing the track, I would still go with a manual.

Properly built auto for any fast car. There is no comparison........PERIOD....unless you just like the clutch/pedal action. But you will lose in an actual race to the same car with an auto every time.

If your going for max et the auto becomes a better option as hp increases regardless of your power adder (although turbos benefit more then n20 or blowers since you can build boost off the line and maintain max boost during shifts). on that note, i personally care more about having fun then i do consistency. give me a ton of horsepower and let me row those gears. i will have fun breaking parts while your auto car is sitting in the garage because your bored of it. and to the guy running [email protected] in a stick car....invest in some tires or learn how to drive.

Mine will remain regular TKO until I break it or go over 500rwhp. It's more of a street car that will see the track a few times a year. If I do go auto it'll be a built AOD or 4r70w with a reverse manual VB, TB, and proper torque convertor. I think that would be fun too..
