Have you considered a DECH front cover? They are long out of business but I think someone makes a knock off.

All I did on mine was take some self tapping screws and run them through the cover up into the bumper beam.

I like that. I imagine sealing around the bumper to intercooler area helps a good bit. Is anyone seeing any engine cooling issues from having the intercooler in front of the radiator on the street?

Mine definitely runs a little warmer than it did when it was N/A.

FWIW, my intake air temps actually go down, after cruising, when I get into boost. Which tells me my current airflow situation is just fine.

this is the intercooler i made for my twin setup. its a 30x10x3 It takes up the entire opening in the front bumber so I cut it to fit like. similar to the ones above. I have had no cooling problems and I run a small radiator.

Heres mine. I dont recommend doing it this way though. I also cut the fiberglass bumper completely out between the mounts to allow the air that goes through the holes in the cover to get to the I/C.

They say what goes up must come down but I ain't reached my cruising altitude.
Take a look at what I did but can you imagine what I'm about to do.

Try this for an LX.

Instead of the typical mounting position I angled my intercooler forward at a 45 deg angle. It fit great and airflow is great. Also the bottom lip of the bumper does not sag at all as I secured it to the bottom of the intercooler mounting brackets. In 105 deg weather after a hard run down the highway engine temps reach 185 - 190 MAX. I do run a 180 deg thermostat with a MKVII fan. Here are a few pictures.

My intercooler is also slightly tilted forward like the one above just not as much of an angle and the opening to the bumper slightly opened more.

How much room behind those air inlets left/right? enough for a Trans cooler?

As it sits right now the inlet and outlet pipes are right behind the side openings. Coming in on the driver and exiting out the passenger side. I run a 5speed so im not concerned with a trans cooler. But it think your idea could be done. It would just take a little effort to move things around. You can easily trim off some inside material if need for more room without effecting the the bumpers appearance.
