I THINK I BLEW IT UP ? "UPDATE" RUNS 9's NOW!!!!!!

well i think my motor finally let go, "MAYBE" i got into boost at about 55 and mashed the gas and all of a sudden a large pop and bang! i pulled over and found my waste gate barely hanging on my crossover pipe. it looks like the welds failed causing it to brake off. other than the GIANT exhaust leak and vaccume line open i was able to limp it home. i guess the real problem is now its burning oil REAL BAD. dosent make any sense to me. im starting to think i put a hole in a piston causing a back fire or something ? i wont know anything til i pull a couple plugs i guess. any ideas ??????????

just got home from work and pulled a plug. it looks light golden brown? i also checked the oil for shavings or water and it looks brand new?. would a huge hole in my exhaust pre turbo and the vaccume line being unhooked from my wastegate cause the blue smoke? im not sue whats going on here. ive been waiting for an excuse to build a dart 351 w a 88mm but now that something actually happen i wish my motor was already done.

I did something real similar with my supercharged car. Got into boost pretty good and bang, car wouldn't stay running and smoked bad. I just knew the motor let go but the inlet pipe had blew off. Reconnected and started right up and drove fine from there. Hope you have good luck like that too.

88lx coupe supercharged 351w.....sold but not forgotten.

would a vaccume line not being hooked up cause the smoke? i guess its funny cause it wasnt missing or making weird noises on the slow drive home other than the missing wastegate, giant hole in exhaust, and vaccume leak. still seemed to run somewhat smooth.

did you look in the intake at the compressor wheel? maybe when you "popped" it damage the seals in the turbo. that will make you car burn oil like no other. last car i busted an oil seal that to was an sti and it smoked like a freight train.

well all my plugs look beautiful golden brown and the intake is clean w/ no oil. i took the exhaust pipe off the housing and i seem to have some shaft play. i guess the only thing i can think of is the oil seals went out in the turbo and it's putting oil into the exhaust? now the problem is do i replace or rebuild the turbo. i would hate to spend 600 on a turbo thats still good if thats not my actual problem. is there any way to know for sure?

man i dont know what to say ? i had the crossover pipe fixed, changed the oil and put a oil restrictor on the turbo and installed new plugs. everything seemed fine and no smoke. i went to the track today and my 1st pass off the trailer was a 9.98 @ 136.8 with a 1.47 60 ft. not real sure what happen or why it went so fast. i did notice more boost on the trans brake so the only thing i can think of is i had a small leak around my wastegate that was bleeding off boost. this thing is a freaking animal now !!!!!

What size oil restricter did you use?

.062. i took the aeroquip fitting off the turbo and used a .187 2 flute endmill to bore a hole. then i machined a plug with the .062 hole so it was a tight fit. this way the fitting still seals on the 37degree taper and i dont have any leaking issues.

Thanks. I will be putting a MP 70 on my daily driver this winter. I am trying to pick up the little stuff and info here and there before I warm up the welder. I have a Precision t76gtsh on the car in my sig without the need of a resticter, but I have seen a few different posts where people have had needed a restricter with the Master Power turbos.
