Quicktime fella's! What A/F?

Looking to sqeeze every oz of HP out of my current combo. I have seen guys claim they picked up as much as 25HP by removing the air filter. Is this true?

I'd like to run a bigger filter. Any of you guys change your filter set-up?

Weird you posted this - i'm heading out the door in just a bit to make a screen for mine. It's at the shop right now getting the tune cleaned up so I may be able to get actual real world numbers out of the switch.

im taking my filter off tomorrow and installing a screen to see what kind of difference it makes at the track. the filter on our quicktime kits is very small and it has to be restricting airflow a little. im also going to remove the headlight and see what happens. at 130mph its got to help a little.

I dont need a dyno to tell you that your going to pick up hp if you take that filter off. As small as it is you could pick up some decent power. There was a guy on turbomustangs.com that removed his screen that you could easily see thru and he picked up alomst 40hp. I thought it was crazy. Also I seen that you wanted to pick up more power in another thread: have you tried removing your exhaust and running an open downpipe? Should see some gains.

I prob wouldnt do it on a daily driven car. Also depends on where you live. If their is alot of road construction or poor roads around where you live I wouldnt. Just have a filter for on the road and take it off when you go to the track or run someone on the street.

For those that picked up with the screen, did you pick up boost as well?

Will removing the filter affect the a/f ratio?

Anyone know what filter set up would be good for the street?

What about adding a pipe to extend the filter elsewhere? Or would this hender performance? I'm not sure how I to run a bigger filter with the tight fit.

Why do you need a bigger filter on the street, is the extra 20hp really gonna make or break you?

Aside from the HP it might help spool and overall efficiency. A screen is not going to hurt anything on a daily.

Sorry never got to update my status - I was unable to dyno the car minus the filter because it already made more power than what I expected 525/626 so I left the filter in place.

Reputable friends advised me against running a mesh type filter because they lost 30rwhp on average by using them. They now all run around completely filterless - no screen, no chicken wire type. I was going to try the chicken wire type but what's it going to stop smaller than a limestone rock?

Rich, you even said it yourself. Why wouldnt any of us wanta pick up an extra 20-30 HP by simply removing a filter?

Id like to see some pics of any screen set ups. Car is only driven about 2k miles a year.

Because on the track where the ground is sticky and you can put down all the power its useful, on the street where you have to modulate the throttle its pointless.. Just push the pedal down a little further.

Are most of your races from a roll? That is how I prefer to race.

That sux. My car hooks like a son of a gun on the street. Maybe focus on the suspension before adding more hp. Wont do you any good if you spin. Spinning aint winning!

Roll racing takes less skill and is more about the motor than the driver. Plus I get traction from a roll.

With the PT78 my car wouldn't make more then 12 or 14 psi on the dyno, I don't remember exactly what it was. That was with a small K&N from summit, not the filter that came from B&G, I couldn't get that thing to fit with the turbo on the car.

Pulled the filter, would make 28 psi.

My car is mostly strip, some street and I agree with the comments regarding daily drivers.

I keep a screen on it now but remove that when in competition.
