On 3 Performance building a SN 94-95 5.0 car/kit

Edit: Update 8-31-10

Just came off the dyno doing some 8psi pulls and ended up with 390/460 on the dyno packs. Just for reference, this was through full exhaust and flow masters which do eat up hp on turbo cars. Overall we are happy as this is just a stock 5.0 motor, stock heads, with a upper/lower and e cam. We could have gotten a little more aggressive and made a little more power but this is a street car and want to keep it together. Also being that its a 90 degree day, that still will rob a little power as well.

In addition to the kits now, we will also offer a mail-order tune with these kits for $189. Any questions let us know, kits are stocked and ready to ship

________________________________________________

Some people know we have been working on an sn 5.0 kit for some time now. A few things came up during this design process and slowed the progress. Everything has been back on track and finally putting the last touches on the kit before we put everything into production. We are going to be releasing the setup within 6-7 weeks from today.

We started the initial design on a 94 Cobra and finished up the test fitting on a friends 95 GT. You will see the headers on this setup are stainless we will do the final production kits in mild steel. Then the intercooler tubing and from turbo back will all be 304 3mm wall stainless. My friends car we bolted the pre-production kit on wanted stainless so we did the kit completely out of stainless for him. There are a lot of kits out there requiring to relocate certain items, make new brake lines, modify pipes, etc.

That will not be the case with our new Sn 94-95 5.0 kit, the abs unit will stay in the stock location, cobra’s will not lose their oil cooler, and its just a nice bolt on system. Our header flanges are cut from ½” plate, primaries are 1 5/8” and been proven already to put some fox 5.0 cars into the 8’s. From the compressor to the intercooler we ran 2.5” tubing and 3” from intercooler to throttle body. Then out of the exhaust housing we have 3” all the way to your existing catback. Also instead of just trying to make the downpipe like the fox cars, we made it in 3 sections to allow for more adjustment as well. This allowed us to keep the stock location on the firewall for the dryer and guys wanting to keep a/c will be able to do so. Then before going into the catback, we designed a y-pipe with a built in cutout. Made it really easy so you can throw an electric cutout on there or just run a block-off plate and uncap it manually for a visit to the track.

We were able to build the setup around all accessories and the only thing we ditched was the smog pump. So A/C will remain on the car, power steering, power brakes, it will all be stay if you choose.

Here are some of the photos of the parts layed out and a few on the test car. I know its dark and the photos on the GT are small. It was in small garage and taken just with my cell phone. We will add things to this thread as the build make more headway and if there are any updates with the build or the turbo system

Ill have more photos to share shortly, this is all that I could take as the car was just up on jackstands at a friends house where the car was parked

on 3 performance, will this kit work on a 351 in a 1997, also is 3" down pipe (from exhaust housing to cats ) enough or should there be a 3.5" down pipe, like other kits, please let us know your input on the down pipe

Its for sure not just going to bolt on the 351 but for sure would be a good starting point. I dont know if we would just be dealing with widening the crossover or if there would be other issues.

All of our kits keep AC and power steering, none of them loose these accessories. The kit will be priced just like the fox kit as of now. $1475 and you will have the option to add the y-pipe if you choose to run that kit $159 retail. We will run specails up to the time we release it for people that do pre-order. Im going to sleep on it and Ill post up details later

This is just a good friend of mines car and we did stainless for the fun of it. We did 3mm thick seamless 304 on his specific kit and it will be driven a lot. He not only will drive it a lot but he treats the car as if he just stole the car :-) Right now we are not producing anything in stainless since so many people doubt the stainless. If there is a demand I will consider, we will use this specific car though to show people gain confidence. I have also just been kicking around the thought of doing some headers/crossovers in stainless down the road if people wanted to swap out. That will not happen soon but will be a project Ill do if people would like it. We actually just did some setups for the 5.0 cars in 3mm seamless wall 304. Very limited quantities but will feel it out and see what people think. If that takes off, we will do the same for the sn 5.0 guys.

Rob I went ahead and took it over to Stevos since I knew he would give me a hand throwing it all on there since Marty would just sit and watch if I used his :-) Its about there, we tweaked 3 of the pipes and everything else is good. I really only needed to tweak 2 but I did the last one becuase personally it would bother me a little so I basically just did it exactly how I would want it and expect it.

There is no way to get it without the cutout section. We just arent going to produce it without that setup. You can buy the kit without the complete downpipe back if you choose though.

Trmustangtr: the standard tuner kit doesnt have maf, injector, and pump in it. However we will sell it standard like that and just leave you the option to add what you would like. We have multiple injector options, turbo options, etc If you needed a certain quote eventually, just pm me

Rob, I stopped over there and checked that out. Very simple from the looks of it, I havent ever wired one in personally like that. What clips do you use to pin that into the meter like that? That would be cool to offer those and include them in with the kits

update: We have a new 4" core option over the standard 3" core that comes with the kits. We have proven the standard intercooler to 700wheel and would recommend the 4" core for guys at or above that level. Just an option for the people on higher hp cars. PM for pricing/details

Will this also be offered as a hot side only setup?

do you have to ditch the smog pump? If so then the kit will not allow you to keep the oil cooler on the cobra's. I tried eliminating the smog pump on my car and when I bought the short belt to bypass it the belt rubbed the oil cooler lines. So I had to eliminate the oil cooler to eliminate the smog pump and there is no other way around it unless you put on a smog eliminating idler pulley. I doubt that would work with the turbo though.... Just a FYI

P.S. the oil cooler doesn't do much anyways so it's not a big loss.

I mocked up on a 94 cobra(with the oil cooler installed) and bolted the production setup on a 95 GT. Does require you to loose the smog and we kept the cobra oil cooler on there, never pulled it off. You will not lose it

How was you able to keep the belt from rubbing the oil cooler lines? One of the first things I did to my car was pull the smog pump due to the pump going bad. I wasn't able to get the belt to keep from rubbing the hard lines. I didn't notice it at first and cranked the car but it was squealing badly so I bought a dummy pulley from asc in order to keep from taking the oil cooler off at the time I tried routing the belt a few different ways but had no luck.

My intentions are not to argue with you over this. I just wanted you to know my experiences with the oil cooler and am curious how you was able to get around it. I like what I have seen from your kit and if everything works out for me I'll try to get one a little later.
