92 On3 Turbo Build

I lifted a headgasket on my last visit to the track on my Procharged 92.

Since I had to tear it down to replace the headgaskets I decided to completely change directions and switch to turbo and a 331 stroker.

Here's the build list:

Eagle 331 stroker kit
Trick Flow Fast as Cast 190 heads
Trick Flow 1.6 rr and 6.7 pushrods
FCam

On3 Turbo kit with upgraded Master Power 70 Turbo

Down to the shortblock. Discovered considerable wear on the cylinder walls. Decided to yank the shortblock and install a 331 stroker I had saved for the future.

Installed the new 331 with the heads/cam. Then bolted on the hotside. Only took a couple hours to bolt on the hotside with my son helping. Everything fit with no modifications.

The On3 Instructions are pretty vague about the installation of the alternator brackets. I searched the forums here and found a couple pictures. After looking at the pics it only took a few minutes to install. After I installed the alternator I installed my Ford Racing AC delete kit. The aleternator relocation bolt that goes through the drivers side of the heim joint wouldnt fit with the ac delete bracket. All I had to do was use the factory bolt water pump bolt, ditch the On3 spacer and use a nut before and after the heim joint.

So we started to install the cold side. The instructions were a little vague and some pictures of the routing of the pipes would be really helpful. Once again I searched the forums to find pics that other members had posted of their builds. Without the forum I probably would still be in the garage trying to figure the cold side out. Here is a pic of the intercooler while test fitting it. Notice the customized brackets are not attached to the radiator support.

I decided to use my PMAS pro tube maf left over from my Procharger set up. This means I have to cut 6"s from the end of the tube that exits the intercooler on the passenger side. This will locate the MAF 9" from the bend and inside the fender where it can be accessed through the factory airbox hole. The tubing is high quality stuff and my homedepot hacksaw barely scratched it. My son is out driving around looking for a muffler shop to cut it for me now.

Sweet, another 5.0L build. I was scratching my head for a little while on that Alternator relocation kit as well, the directions arent right in the manual. Apparently my kit was missing a spacer too, so I ended up just using the factory bolt for the tensioner on the water pump, with a nut.

Anyone with an On3 kit think my intercooler is in the right place? I am worried that I might have it mounted too high.

We have a Pony Down kit, but it basically uses the same type of intercooler and piping...As long as your IC is even with the bottom of the radiator support or slightly above you should be fine with your nose fitting back on with minimal or no cutting for clearance.

Looks like a real nice setup...should run real nice!!!

Tried to fit the bumper cover on and had to either cut away at the headlight support or lower the IC and push it back toward the radiator. Since this is not a daily driver I removed the AC and the condensor brackets which allowed me to move the IC back and down. Now the bumper cover will fit without trimming the headlight support. The bottom of the bumper cover was already hacked up to fit the procharger IC. I will replace the bumper cover soon and want to intstall it without hacking it up.

I had to cut the tube leading from the IC to the intake and install the MAF. The silcone coupler hit the fender brace so I had to "clearance" it a bit.

Lower intake finally installed after 2 trips to the machine shop to have it milled down. Damn Edelbrock Victor had to be milled .185 on the mating surfaces and .100 on the ends to get the ports to match up with the Trick Flow 190 FAC heads. Another $120 but who is counting?

No problem. I hope it have it complete by Thursday and then take it to the tuner. I will be out of town til the 7th but hope to have it out at Firebird for test and tune on the 7th. If we make it there I will get some videos. They should be entertaining as it's a 6 spd. From what I hear turbos and manuals don't mix too well....

A big hint for you... Build a brace for the turbo to put less stress on the manifold so it won't crack/break any of the welds... That's why most people have problems with the on3 kits I'm building a brace for mine
