What heads & intake for my combo???

4-bolt 331 with 14 cc dish pistons with in line valve reliefs (no TFS heads, unfortunately) and B&G 70mm turbo kit. My biggest issue is that I'm afraid that if I go with too large of a head that the exhaust port will be too big for the headers which I believe are only 1 5/8" primaries on the headers and then I'll have exhaust leaks from hell! I'm shooting for a high 9 second street car with a 5 speed.

Can I make the power I need to make a 3300 lb car get down the track in 9 seconds with a smaller off the shelf head and just more boost??

Let me know your thoughts...this is driving me nuts trying to figure out what to buy...I've only got one chance to get this right.

There are plenty of guys on here who have ran mid to high 8's with 175-190 heads. I think anywhere in there you would be fine. If you are looking to upgrade later I would address that now. IE. bigger turbo/ bigger displacement engine. I still match would the motor up and see what can be seen turbo combos seem to like velocity a bit more than capacity or volumetric flow capabilities. Good luck.

What is your budget for heads and intake? That will determin alot. At a minimum i would go with a 185 head. Just remember the boost is a by-product, the more restrictive your set-up is, the high boost your gonna have to run to get to your goal.

A Victor intake is to much manifold IMO. Your RPM band is low for that manifold. You will be shifting before it gets to it's powerband.

I would go with something like a Systemax or RPM2 for that setup.

I'm running a turbo though...don't you think that will make up for the lack of RPM??? I ran a TFS R Box intake with an S-trim before and it hauled ass.

exactly. plus you said you wanted to run high 9s, which is no easy task with a stick turbo car, however it means that you will be pushing some good boost and hence the intake will be just fine. plus if you ever change over to more cubic inches or a biger turbo it will fall right into place. pk

No I don't think that will make up for it. The turbo will mulitply what ever HP your motor will make N/A. The better of a foundation that you have N/A the better the turbo will work. Plus you are going to be running a stick so if you shift at 6200rpm your rpm will drop to about 4200ish. The motor will be dead there.

I put down close to 800RWHp on my 352 with 15psi at 6300rpm running a Spyder (Vic Jr). I spin my motor to 7500rpm with a solid roller. My HP only dropped 30-40HP at 7300rpm. A nice flat powerband. I wouldn't even consider that Victor manifold with my more cubes and rpms. Remember it is not Peak HP or Tq that gets you down the track, it is average HP and average TQ.

Heck my friend ran a 8.59 @ 163 with an OTB Vic Jr intake with 342 cubes shifting at 8000rpm.
