swap to stock cam from F-cam?

I parked my mustang for the turbo build. I started tearing a few things down checking some things. Something in the back of my head was telling me to pull my heads off...

Pulled my heads off and found a chamber with the valve seal all burnt/chewed up b/w the valves (thinnest part where the two valves almost meet) The plug in this cylinder also had the ground strap burnt or broke off (didnt look at it close enough)

Needless to say thats going to have to be fixed, i am going to pull the motor again since the rear main leaks and i am going to inspect the bearing related to another issue.

I got to thinking about swapping back to a stock cam and a performer intake and keeping my TW heads. I like the idea of a tame stock idle and the well mannered/smoother driving of a stock cam.

The way i am seeing it... The turbo i am going to use (mpt70) can push more than enough air to split the stock block, so why not have the smoother idle and better manners driving around while i am at it. If i have the ability to easily split the stock block regardless of cam choice them it would seem to make sense... Plus a stock cam would make more low end and it would keep the RPM band down promotoring more longevity out of the engine.

Just trying to get some idea and input from people running the stock cam or have done similiar swaps. I'd like to do it, but i keep thinking maybe it would be a step backwards, i'm not wanting to kill power, just shift the powerband down some....

a stock cam and a 70mm turbo will make tons of hp. I say you are right enjoy the smooth idle and turn up the boost when you want to go fast.

I still use the stock cam and it idles pretty smoothly once it gets warmed up. It also has good drivability. Get a chip burnt and it will drive just like stock.

I tune my car with a QH, my idle is pretty good as well as the drivability....i'm more leaning towards the lower powerband and the sleeper effect...

I was conteplating the same (I even have 1.7rr's on top of it)...but if your idle is good and your happy with it, why switch? With the f303 you can still shift at mild rpm's (6k and below) without hurting performance. It will also allow you to run less boost while making more power.

As for performance, the stock cam may feel more peppy down low on the street...but the "F" is going to give you better numbers at the track. I say keep it as it is and get some solid numbers. If your still not happy, swap it out for stock and get some new numbers (and keep us updated).

I think i decided to go ahead and stick with the F and typhoon and see how it works with the turbo for now. I dont really feel like going through the hassle of finding a stock cam to use and 1.7s to go with it. If i feel the need to swap i can always do it like you said Millhouse.
